And given that the main stand-out feature of this unit is the 3D, that would be total cack. I very much hope that doesn't turn out to be the case and, you know, I reckon it probably won't be for the most part. But it would be a real kick in the pants if what we've seen in screenshots (like MGS3 or RE) can't actually be rendered in 3D.

But, as I said earlier, I kind of doubt that's the case for most games or it would have been all over the news sites. I imagine (and certainly hope) that the 3D will mostly be real 3D and look very cool.

I don't think the 3D effect will be major issue. I played Batman AA in 3D which uses the EVIL 3D method, which can provide depth but not 'true' 3D. It pops out of the screen well and is going to be a little more obvious for the initial wowing 3D effect on such a small screen at this point in time. If developers want to go for a true 3D effect then no doubt the option is there, but some software tricks and clever programming will be needed. It's just a matter of time.

Fair enough, my bad. I've not really been following this thread that much. I just thought i'd add my 2p seeing as it all seems like history repeating to me.

Absolutely. Why choose? Buy them both.

I plan to. I have a blue 3DS ordered and I'm very much planning on enjoying it. I do think some of the recent news has been a bit disappointing but I have little doubt it's going to be good fun and will likely have many must-have games in its lifetime.

            Interesting video nice one!

Yeah I'm a gamer so I've just ordered a 3DS too, sick of all the moaning!

It's DS vs PSP all over again, really. The Nintendo console is technically the weakest, and its external/physical hardware design already seems dated and disappointing, but it'll have Nintendo first-party games, and plenty of Japanese third-party support, so it's already far ahead of the Sony competition on my shopping list.

I just want a port of Majora's Mask. So I'll be hoping OoT shifts in MASSIVE numbers in order to make that happen.

Now we have an analog stick, maybe I can look forward to a playable version of f-zero x /gx on a handheld.

Imagine how much that'll melt your eyes in 3D?

Yeah thanks to the analog and more horse power maybe we'll see a lot of re-releases from the N64 and GameCube. F-Zero X, Luigi's Mansion, Wind Waker, SSBM all in your hand in 3D... yes please!

The thing is tho, as much as I'd like those to be released, just look at how much flak they would get for doing it. 'Yet more rehashes!' 'Nintendo simply cashing in' 'Where's our original games' etc etc

                      They can't win.

To be honest i get sick of companies when they release an old game but add nothing substantial to it's re-release, when i heard that OOT was going to be coming out again i just turned off as i have literally played it to death that i have no interest going back to the same game yet another time. Seeing as theres going to be no new dungeons or quests. At least when Mario 64 was released on DS they added a lot of extra stuff. I find it amazing that people lose it & are like OMG OOT YES!!!! err haven't you played it enough already?

Im much more interested in what new stuff will come out, i don't mind sequels but releasing an old game & tacking on 3D isn't going to cut it especially when your expecting to sell them at ?40 a pop.

                          Case in point.

I'm looking forward to all the new titles too. It'll just take time that's all.

Thats why i'll be jumping in later on this time as the 3DS launch stuff just makes me yawn, i'll wait till theres more out for it. I got the DS on launch & i loved the launch lineup & years later the DS's library of games has turned into something amazing 5000+ titles across all regions have been released on the DS, theres literally something in that lot for everyone.

I know the 3DS is going to have some awesome games down the line, just a shame Nintendo didn't get off it's ass at launch & have a few of them ready. The 3DS launch really does feel like it was rushed.

Launching last Christmas would have probably been rushed. There is nothing rushed about this launch - the games are ready, Nintendo are just holding them back.

Sony are probably rushing the NGP launch, given that the first word we've heard about it was a week ago.

Well, the NGP isn't due until the end of the year, so announcing it around this time would be quite reasonable. Nintendo were forced to announce the 3DS earlier than they would have liked due to the details being leaked to the Japanese media.

The 3DS launch lineup is looking pretty dire though, and they don't even have a digital store to fall back on since that has been delayed until May. In my case, since I don't actually own a DS right now, I'm actually going to be using my 3DS to play DS games for at least the first couple of months (doesn't seem to make sense to buy a standard DS right now).
