3DS = slightly less raw grunt than a Gamecube but with more graphical effects.

NGP = about 60% of the raw grunt of a PS3 but with the exact same graphical effects.

The NGP is whole generation ahead of the 3DS really.

Ok, so I crumbled and went for a UK one in the end with Bingowings and Ghost Pecan (never thought I'd find myself buying something from that franchise). I'm tempted by SSFIV but I'm not made of money and I imagine Steel Diver will be out in about a month and there's Portal 2 in April, too.

No way is it close to 360/PS3 power. I played SSF4 and it looks nice but not that nice. Even though it's powering two screens, they're still quite low-res, and there's other stuff to think about.

Speaking of SSF4, I got to play it on my mate's 3DS yesterday. I spent about 20 seconds just gawping at the spinning SSF4 logo on the 3DS main menu!

I found the 3D effect too confusing and turned it off. My thumb also slipped away from the dpad and hit the ultra button on the touch screen! I have the same problem with PSP where I'll accidentally hit the analogue nub when playing SF intensely. I'm assuming/hoping you can turn off the touchscreen easy mode?

I do like how, when you tilt the 3DS, it flicks about like the dinosaur rulers

Also, I think the size, weight and finish are all fine. Nowhere near the original DS in terms of dodgy looks, so I'm not impatiently waiting for a redesign like I was with that.

I'm sort of glad he only had SSF4 because, if he had Pilotwings or something, I probably would've gone to HMV right there and then and bought one. At the moment I feel like the guys in the Crunchy Nut Cornflakes French Legionnaires Resistance Test. That Nintendo magic...

Sounds like it's nearer half a generation going off what you say.

Well Resi Mercs looks to me pretty close to the PS3 version so maybe we should wait to see what comes out before passing judgement.
I took my Brother in Law to the midnight event. He didn't know a thing about the 3DS so I got the GS manager to get the demo unit and Pilotwings out. He stood there mesmerized by the game and commented on the graphical power as amazing compared to his DS and PSP

SSf4 looks a lot better than i was expecting, I didn't think it looked that great judging by screenshots etc, but in 2D mode it looks just like the 360/PS3 version to my mind. And as I said, Capcom have said it could handle Resi 5. Resolution doesn't make as big a difference to performance as other things judging by changing the settings on PC games. In fact it seems to make little difference to how well games run.

Nintendo doesn't sell consoles at a loss. I'm not sure if that's the case with the 3DS but if it is, then I doubt you could call it a half generation as Sony's NGP will most likely be sold at a loss, and they can go for a much higher spec without worrying about the price as much.

I don't get what they mean, though, and sounds like PR talk. Handle Resi 5 how? I'm sure they could port Resi 5 to the 3DS, but I'm sure they could probably port Resi 5 to the DS. It'll be cut down.

If one's the power of the Cube generation, and one's 60% of the power of the next generation, then clearly that's nearer half a generation!

have to remember though when it comes to power ngp/3ds there screen resolutions are a fraction of what the xbox and ps3 have to do

Got my Games (Ridge Racer 3D & SSFIV 3D) and accessories (Carry Case & Screen Protectors) this morning from Amazon, but still no 3DS.

Really hoping for a Monday delivery but Tuesday (Amazon estimate) seems more likely.

According to Wiki the Gamecube was actually 3D capable and Luigi's Mansion has a full 3D mode programmed in that was just never used. Just thought I'd throw that out there, might mean we get it released on the 3DS?

Turns out you can save yourself a few bob by buying some of the ?25 games and then trade them straight back in to get the decent games at ?30. That nugget apparently came as advice from a Game employee to a punter!

I.E get Monkey Ball and Rayman in your bundle for ?25 each. Take them out of cellophane and hand them back to get ?70 trade value and pay an additional ?10 to get SSFIV and pilotwings

Just so you guys know, the ?25 games can be bought at any time, not just when you purchase the console. Also those games that are ?25 will only be worth ?20 trade-in value. Only the games priced at ?40 will be worth the ?35 trade-in mentioned. This offer is on for 2 wks.

Saw Madden 3DS in the ?25 section in GAME today. I didnt even know it was console release title. Was tempted, but a member of staff told me it was ****e.

Cheers for that Eddie. Glad it got cleared up. I bought a second copy of Ridge with the machine for £25 and was going to take it down to try get the £35 trade value.
I spotted CEX giving £32 trade for RR so can get Gamestation to price match to get £33 trade

I suppose in terms of trying to figure out where it stands in the power leaderboards I get what you mean(similar to how people were initially calling the 360 Xbox 1.5 on account of the graphical jump from the Xbox).

If I had to call any two consoles half a gen apart, I'd lean more towards the 360 and PS3, or SNES and MD.

I bet you any money that, when the NGP arrives, it won't look anywhere near as good as we think it will(remember the PSP), and then I'll remember this half-gen talk
