    Silent Hill: Downpour 360/PS3

Well I would never have dreamed it after not so great sales of Shattered Memories, even though it was fantastic.
Details are pretty much, Konami are working with a new developer on a new Silent Hill for next gen consoles. Frankfurt, Germany the announcement was made.
Konami's working with a new developer on a new Silent Hill game for "next-gen consoles", aka PS3 and Xbox 360.

    Thoughts?
Yamaoka is also now with Grasshopper, although he did say if asked he would do the music.

Incredibly disappointed it's not going to be Climax making it. Silent Hill Shattered memories was great, it was just on the wrong consoles (mature games don't sell on the Wii and it was never going to be a million seller on the PSP).

I get the feeling that we'll end up with another Homecoming or Origins and a series that looked to be adding some real innovation to the genre will go back to being stale with developers trying to copy SH1, 2 and the movie.

More news: The developer is.... Vatra games! I'm sure you know all about them!

Anyhow, details on the teaser from Gamestop:

A brief trailer for the game opened with a camera slowly panning across a dimly lit environment. One item that stood out from the backdrop: a green traffic sign with the words "Silent Hill" clearly legible even in the darkness. A moment later, a lone male figure was shown in the middle of a street, which was obscured by the survival horror series' trademark fog.

The man--clearly afraid of something--glanced furtively around the environment, before being attacked by a ghastly figure in the trailer's closing seconds. Finally, the trailer closed with the phrase "The Silence Ends" and a reference to this year's E3.
      Final game in the franchise?

        Not if it sells well.

This is highly likely a remake of Silent Hill 2.

Konami's Gamers Night 2010 presentation concluded with a nice surprise: A teaser trailer for what could only be a new Silent Hill game. Well, maybe not entirely new.

In the footage, which appeared to be an in-engine recording of gameplay from one or both of the current HD consoles, a male character resembling James Sunderland from Silent Hill 2 awoke from a public bench and began wandering the foggy, deserted streets of a suburban neighborhood. While the game's title was not revealed, given the recent revisiting of the original Silent Hill in Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, a remake of the second game in the series doesn't seem too far-fetched.

The teaser ended with the tagline: "End the Silence" and "E3." We suspect the weather report for Los Angeles in the third week of June will call for sunny with a chance of terrifying fog.

Why remake/reimagine a perfect story? Doesn't make sense, SH1 I understood cause it was old and a new audience. hmmmm will wait and see

Sounds like it'll be using unreal engine 3 from newish rumours. I'm really, really hoping it doesn't have that UE3 look that the majority of games using the engine have.

Slightly off-topic, but I read the other say that the director and many key staff from the original Silent Hill games actually moved to Studio Japan and made the Siren games. Does this have any corrolation with the drop in quality in the Silent Hill series?

There is basically none of the original silent hill talent left making the games now. Not even the distinctive music which managed to stay up until this game.

Believe SH4: The room was team silent but it was a pet project, not meant to be a silent hill game (the cult stuff was shoehorned in late in development). After that, it's been Western developers with Konami occasionally checking in.

To be fair though, Konami have ensured some level of quality control. When SH:O looked to be a god awful RE4 rip off, they sacked the dev team who reworked it closer to a typical SH game.

And to be fair, while SH2 had one of the best stories a videogame's ever had, it's not much of a game. It's shockingly easy and far too much of it consists of running around empty, repetitive environments doing absolutely nothing. It could certainly benefit from a remake.

But that's what made it so great at the time; the atmosphere was brilliantly captured by being so silent, leaving you on edge and making the scares all the more prominent when they did occur.

Do Konami make their own Silent Hill games anymore? Surely they must realise by now they have all been stinkers. Yeah i said it, Shattered Memories included.
