That trailer didn't have the trademark Silent Hill uh, charm to me...It looked more like Alone in the Dark. Really obvious that Akira Yamaoka isn't doing the music, too.

Ruddy loved Shattered Memories on Wii though. Hopefully they'll expand on that games marvellous ideas.

Will seriously miss Akira Yamaoka's SH score and MaryElizabeth McGlynn vocal stuff, Dan Licht has massive boots to fill but reckon he will do ok with it.
Just to add if we count Play Novel and the iphone version there is also a pre-iphone mobile game too, the dreaded SH The Arcade and Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams/Directors Cut version with extra tiny chapter.
More Silent Hill than first appears.

An eighth Silent Hill game will be released next year on PS3 and Xbox 360, Konami has announced.

There's no major brand-renovation being done. Instead, Konami wants to "stay true to the franchise's roots" and deliver, as Shinji Hirano (publisher boss) put it, "A next generation horror game that the fans truly deserve".

          *sigh*

Staying true to the series roots would be to try and do something new and interesting, not to do another homage.

Let me guess: the big plot twist will be that the main character was actually responsible for the death of the loved one you're trying to find!!! That's edgy and Silent Hill like right?

Get ready for the edgy new silent hill, Silent Hill Downpour.

6 Pages from Game Informer are out there and visually it actually looks very nice indeed.
One thing that has been mentioned and kind of fills me with dread, boss fight QTE's.
            We shall see.

Summary stolen from elsewhere, like CVG!

-demo takes place in the outskirts of Silent Hill
-the town is so large that you can use a subway system to travel between focal points
            -sidequests
-avoid fights when possible, better to deliver incapacitating blows and run away
            -boss fights with quicktime events
-water plays a huge part in the game, bizarre water effects like what looks like an upside down river flowing across a ceiling is described
-prominent locations in the older installments like schools and hospitals will not return
-the southeastern part of Silent Hill that you see on the maps in the older games but never go to is the area that will be explored in Downpour
-no weapon inventory, weapons weaken and break
-there will be puzzle difficulty options

QTEs are the pox of gaming. The rest sounds interesting, if not exactly exciting. Still, I'll hope for good things.

Least it actually looks pretty nice, liking the sound of the water based creepyness too.
Another plus is that Daniel Licht took over from Akira Yamaoka and although he can never be replaced the guy does pull out some great music, reckon it could be just right for Silent Hill.

I'd forgotten about Daniel Licht being on board, hopefully he'll compose some great audio for the game

Those details sound pretty cool so I can't wait to see more on the game.

All this talk of water etc jus springs Hydrophobia to mind...........

I remain optimistic...... Sounds interesting how prominent locations like hospital and school will not feature, can only be a good thing in my book. QTE.......... well it could work........ in a God of War type of way ish........

Nice that it sounds like they're trying something genuinely different rather than Silent Hill the movie : the game 2

Not sure how I missed the trailer from E3, I look forward to this anyway after managing to enjoy Shattered Memories

OMy. No worries about the music from me now. The Dexter blood theme would fit perfectly into a Silent Hill game. Quite looking forward to this!

Of course Shattered Memories was developed by Climax, so sadly Shattered Memories being quite alright won't have much to do with Downpour as it is being developed by Vatra Games hopefully they'll do a good job

In my head I can imagine the water theme working really well in this kind of game. I still haven't gone through a Silent Hill game since SH3 so I'm quite in the mood for a new one

You should seek out Shattered Memories (PSP/PS2/Wii) one of the best Silent Hill game I have played since 2, at least for story/atmosphere.
