Move is sort of fun but felt useless to me also. I can't see myself using this for hours of matches in competitive play. I prefer DS3 by a long shot.

Operations managed to grab me, its extremely good and seeing myself in the cutscenes (I think you need to be top 3) was awesome as well. I prefer this over guerilla warfare now.

I've not purchased a game this year yet. Kinda on my own austerity drive, I have a new hobby vying for my income, and I've enough games left unplayed on my shelf to make spending more right now seem pretty stupid. So despite my adoration of KZ2, I'll likely pick this up at a [cheaper] time. I'm really looking forward to playing this; and LBP2, and Motorstorm....

Thats weird as the isa assault rifle sounded like a beast when i played it, and packs a massive punch too. Not sure i like the standard helghast being changed to a silenced weapon though as i always liked it in its raw basic form.

CVG has listed Gamesmasters review as being 77% citing difficulty spikes and the story as the reasons for marking it down. The more reviews come out the more puzzled I'm getting. The alterations within the controls/actual gameplay seem to be being glossed over a fair bit and I'm still wondering what their benchmark title is for an FPS with a decent story ???

            I concur.
I'm using headphones and the standard ISA M82-G assault rifle sounds a lot meatier than in Killzone 2.

Yet apply that same reviewing logic to the yearly Activision jaunt and that still gets high 8's - 9's

            zing

I find it's mainly American publications that really make emphasis on story over everything. They always do. And as such will mark down pretty much anything if it doesn't have a decent story, yet the gameplay could be superb. Vanquish is one of those such recent titles that come to mind. I mean, really.

Hands up, who actually plays first person shooters for the storyline? rather than for the combat/ battle mechanics and for how it works rather than superficial nonsensical poor excuses of narrative which hallmarks many a modern day shooter. I'd rather have exceptional set piece after set piece battle encounters rather than some sort of ham fisted attempt at Shakespeare.

            Regardless.
I enjoyed Killzone 2 and the Killzone 3 Multiplayer beta.

I'm more concerned about the increased ratio of 'on rail' shooting sections. I never liked them.

              ^^^^ this

I've never played an FPS with anything above a mediocre story and I've never really cared. From a personal perspective, reviews from major sites are meaningless to me although I imagine they are important for the devs/publishers.

Their benchmark for a FPS with a decent story is probabaly Half-Life 2 or Bioshock,, though I personaly felt the first Bioshock was overrated many people loved it.

I dont really play FPS's for the story though, Killzone 3 probabaly isnt like either of the above games, its more of a pure action game in the vein of COD or Halo, and nither of those franchises have good stories in their games.

Good point rmoxon. I'm about 4 hours into Bioshock and so far there's been no real story as such. If I ever complete it then maybe I'll have been part of a realluy good story. The problem though is all the action so far has been boring so I'll never even play it again. Gimme action!

I think Bioshock is the only one I can think of with a good story. They certainly don't mark down any other other FPS series for it's narrative so I'm curious whyt they're all making such a fuss about it with this particular installment

The guy who reported 4.5 hour game time just so happens to be the Games TM reviewer, who gave it 7/10
Here's what he has to say about the death threats.

Bioshock had an assload of potential, but the Story although very good at first takes the biggest nosedive I've experienced in a game. Then you're left with a 10 hour FPS with outdated gameplay mechanics, no multiplayer and ultimately a story thats sadly not satisfying. I think Bioshock is one of the most overrated games out there, but thats just my humble opinion.

Killzone 3 may have a crappy and short storyline, but its multiplayer looks to be stellar. Hardly any review out there mentions the MP mode and if they do, its quite positive.

Killzone also gets a lot of flak for some reason, more than any other FPS out there (probably even more than Crysis). Why that is must have to do with the fact that its a Ps3 exclusive and that Killzone 2 was being hyped up too far with bullshots and fake trailers. People hated the 'Halo killer' original too. Also in Holland the series isn't being met with a lot of sympathy, although its likely our biggest gaming export. All those numbskulls repeat what reviews say while loading up BLOPS. That game does nothing new and different, suffers from a ****load of problems and its crappy story might be the most minor offender.

it's really a shame that Guerilla seemingly don't have any talent to tell a decent story, most of all since the universe they created is so rich and resourceful in terms of history, culture and locations.

and what about the promised insights into the Helghan side of the war? i take it there are no Helghan side story missions?

the lack of online co-op is also inexcusably and incomprehensible for me.

I actualy thought Bioshock 2 was a much better game, i thought the story was better done and was more interesting (for instance there is a bit where you play as a little sister and see how the world looks through their eyes which I thought was genius and explained why they are like they are very well) and there was also more shooting and the action had been improved quite alot (which admitedly didnt take much as you could complete the original just by hitting everyone with your wrench). Was a massive step up IMO.

The lack of decent storytelling is a shame. Guerrilla created an awesome world and the Helghast are cool. The KZ2 intro is really one of the best intros in the business imo, but that was all there was to it in the actual game. Most background info was being put onto the internet, probably to keep the focus mainly on the action, but its still a shame.

There should of been online co-op yes, but isn't this another thing CoD doesn't get slagged for? Just Halo had it in terms of SP, but it felt really tacked on in that game.

Well metacritic will be for GG as if they miss their target score they miss out on bonuses.
