          Slowest rollout ever?

Many of you have been involved in the 2012 Xbox LIVE Update Public Beta and have been busy getting an early look at the latest Xbox LIVE features. Today we’re starting to roll out the official release of the update to Xbox LIVE subscribers around the world. To ensure a stable release, this […]

Every time a new one comes out they make it just a tiny bit more annoying to use...this time its the removal of the 'Live TV' button. Instead of a single button press to perv on natalie sawyer on SSN its now several presses and a scroll. Tiny change but irritating. none the less!

              Lets take a look.

Our initial deployment will reach approximately three million consoles worldwide, with additional users being updated over the course of a couple weeks
Dont worry you'll get the update soon enough and you can come back for the inevitable whining afterwards.

I've got the new dash, and it's actually LESS functional than before.

All of the little pictures for my games are missing. I now just have a grey box showing a controller, whereas before there was a low res pic allowing me to quickly identify it. WTF gives?! I am offline 99.9% of the time, btw, so I don't get to see those large boxart shots. At least before I had smaller shots. Now I don't know what games I have and am forced to sift through each reading the title. It sounds pedantic, but imagine seeing a wall of 50 grey little boxes with small text differentiating them. The pics made it easy - reading the names of EACH is a pain in the ass.

The recent tab has NEVER worked for me. Every time I switch the 360 off it loses the date because there's no battery to keep the time, so NOT ONE GAME has an accurate time stamped.

I was really, REALLY looking forward to pins. But it only works if you're online! How ****ing retarded is that?! I AM NOT ONLINE MICROSOFT, YOU STUPID IDIOTS!

You know, the 360 as a piece of hardware really is ****ing garbage. Nice games, but the system itself and the user interface is total dog ****.

Quite like it myself. The games section has been moved back in and more things are in reach of the main section.

The Pins are useless even if you are online, because they aren't on the homepage and take too long to appear.

People on the MS forums keep making a song and dance about how there's only 1 tiny advert on the homepage now, but WTF are all those other things if they aren't adverts? I ALREADY HAVE Battlefield 3 Premium - why are you showing me a homepage box telling me I can buy it? Surely it should be checking for this sort of thing before spamming me. If it's going to spam me, at least make it useful.

The whole thing is so painful now I can't even be bothered to navigate to the demos and indie sections, just relying on recommendations here on Bordersdown.

I too was wondering about the grey boxes. What's with that? Surely a massive cock up?

All of this pales into insignificance compared to my latest problem though. I can't get to the dash at all. I have do everything via the guide button. I've tried clearing the cache and wiping my profile and redownloading it. No joy.

                      LOL .. Don't mince your words ...

The 360 is designed to be online, all those little pictures of game titles etc .. where exactly do you think they come from? Maybe they are all magically installed at the factory, where M$ personnel travel to the future and get the latest box art.

It's like someone moaning that their Web Browser isn't displaying anything because their machine isn't connected to the internet.

Get your 360 connected to the net and stop being a 'pleb' as people like to call it these days!

Stop being an obtuse idiot. Are you incapable of reading English, or are you just trolling me? Let me try to explain it in simple, school boy terms.

With the old dash, if you were offline and installed a game from a retail disc, it had a small low-resolution icon. Of the game itself, or usually the logo. The icon was produced by the game - obviously stored on the disc - and did not need to go online to create it. Likewise, if you bought a game online, and then later booted your machine in offline mode, the XBLA game you had previously bought would show a little icon. This icon was obviously part of the game coding - therefore, it would not need to be online to display it, because it is already on your machine, as a part of the game.

These icons were not an online component. Let me bold this for you: the Xbox showed little icons for all games, when offline, irrespective of if it had ever been online. Understand so far? Good, let's carry on.

Now, with the new dash, there are no longer the small icons, there is only this:

I want the old icons back. The icons were there in offline mode, now they are not. If you still have trouble comprehending this, get someone on this forum to explain it to you with crayons and a piece of paper.

This has been a public broadcast announcement courtesy of Sketcz. Thank you all very much.

                          No broadband?!

I bet you're too busy pointing at aeroplanes or trying to rake the moon out of your pond!

                          Comment

I have broadband, but my PC is connected via a USB-based Alcatel dial-up modem, which gives me broadband (dial-up broadband, would you believe!). I have a router, but Orange in my part of the country is so damned flaky that the router has a lot of trouble connecting to their network, and frequently crashes (I've tried two types of router, same problem). The USB one is much more stable, but obviously won't work with the 360.

I never bother taking my consoles online unless I have to.

No moon in the pond, but there seems to be ducks frequenting it, despite the cold weather.

I'm sure the only thing stopping you going off to find broadband is the fear of falling off the edge of this flat Earth of ours...

I'm only joking, mate. You've mentioned your connectivity woes before and having all blank icons is a bit naughty. The thumbnail should be on the disc, really.

                              You moonraker.

Ah well .. May I suggest that you move to somewhere with better broadband then...

In all seriousness I understand what you mean by the old icons being there offline, you don't have to be condescending about it. Obviously something has changed and at the moment you are required to be online.

Where do you live exactly? The moon, most people can get BB these days one way or the other. Regarding the Troll statement I would just say 'pot, kettle, black'.

The point was that I was trying to make was that there is plenty of stuff on the Xbox that doesn't work if you are offline all the time, its designed to be a device that connects to the internet.

It could just be a bug I guess .. Sure it will get fixed at some point, if only to make sure all those moon people can still see their icons.

Pleb might have been a bit strong though and for that I do apologies.
