I see what you're saying but lets not forget MS have been advertising the update quite extensively granted vast majority are not going to sign in @ 10.30 but millions will update on the 19th there servers have to be able to stand it regardless..

on another note anyone who signed up for the preview should find an update prompt when they next switch on their machine, they've allowed everyone else to get it early - perhaps they are trying to reduce strain for 10.30 updates?

They could reduce the strain simply by not putting a time on when the update's available.

One thing Ive not see anyone talk about or show...

Can you still turn off the Xbox by holding the Guide Button for 5 secs?

I've seen the shutdown button on the end of the new guide, but not as its own menu.

Yes you can. Same menu options come up. I.e. switch console off, or switch joypad off.

For anyone who got the leaked version and wants to go online before tomorrow there's a video here which might be useful.

Using it to play Gears 2 online until tomorrow and it works. The good thing about Gears 2 is that it has the What's Up in game friends list so you can still join your friends.

Well I've just connected my network cable for the first time since "updating" the dash and it's popped up with a system update request. I'm really not sure whether to accept or not.

Even Preview consoles will receive the final release tomorrow. That's what they said anyway.

Even so, the download is only 7MB, it's the avatars that take up a little bit more bandwidth, even then the 120 odd meg that constitutes that isn't even close to that of a big demo release.

I tried the "insert old game then say no to the update" trick and it does make some sort of connection to Live (this is with the unofficial NXE). I can see marketplace adverts and it pops up when someone signs in, but it always says 0 next to the online friends symbol. None of the Marketplace blades do anything though and I can't browse it to download anything.

                        It's all a bit weird.

Does anyone know time wise when this launches? ive heard rumours of whenever its the 19th according to you console location etc.... My thought was once its midnight in america, as surely they are one of the last territories to reach midnight. If anyone can shed some light would be nice, would love to get my avatar sorted before work 2moro!!

                            Thanks

When I press the Guide button when a friend shows online it doesn't take me directly to the their page any more and just takes you to the initial Mini Guide page. Great, extra clicks!

I never knew whether that was a good thing or not, more often than not I ended up going to a friends list when I wanted to check an achievement or message someone else.
