just a probably silly question to you lot that have this already, do i need to create one of these silly avatar things if i dont play on live ?

can i just use my 360 to play games offline or will it ask for one of them avatar things before i can do anything on it

i just have silver live account for watching videos of new games etc

First thing that happens when you update is that you get the avatar creation program. You can then hit the button to accept any of the pre-defined ones, or create your own. If you dont want to create one it's a 5 second task to skip past it all.

But yes, you do need one of those silly avatar things, regardless

I was looking forward to this update for the added resolutions, while they now have 1680 by 1050 it ends up giving you borders at the top and bottom of the screen, kinda annoying.

They are very noticable. I installed the NXE a fortnight ago and had the same concern. Basically I found out that while it is a true 16:10 aspect ratio, the games are all written for 16:9 so by letterboxing it it actually ensures that it's the correct aspect (whereas before it was stretched).

Surely any resolution that is not a standard 16:9 will give you borders. Else the game will be either cropped at the sides or stretched.

About 1.5cm top and bottom on my 21" lcd monitor.

Im not sure what I prefer, the true aspect ratio or the complete full screen even if it is stretched.

I hated the borders at first. I got used to them though.

Got this at lunch time and Im quite impressed, installed Gears 2 onto the HD . Took about 10 mins.
