Has the spec for streaming video changed with the new dash? I have some vids that used to work fine but now don't.

I had a thing pop up saying I required the optional media update.

try deleting it from your HDD and installing the most upto date one

        They've probably reduced compatibility.

Can't set black correctly at all for video playback on the new metro dash (not without breaking my calibrated settings).
The good news (at least with my TV) is that gaming seems to be unaffected.

I tried to stream an mp4 from my UPNP server and it wouldn't play so I renamed it to .avi and the 360 downloaded a media update for AAC audio and MP4 video and the file played fine (as an avi).
I'm using get_iplayer to download BBCHD programmes which muxes them to playable MP4. Very nice quality.

Honestly, video playback on this is ****ed:

Quite worrying - 1080p via Zen, 720p for every other service. Wow.

On top of that the Xbox now flashes (like it's on power saving download) for a few mins after I put it off. To conclude, not only do I have a less functional dash board but now a noisier Xbox and one that takes longer to shut down. Utter ****.
The noise has got steadily worse and now it sounds like a car reving as soon as it goes on, and remains noisy. Microsoft have agreed to a free repair as at it's worst, I can't hear the game over the noise. In summary not only does the update suck balls, it also borked my machine

I'm going out of my mind now. Got the above Xbox 360 repaired from Microsoft. It came back a bit quieter, but within hours was back to being noisy. They gave me a replacement console today and now that's started making dodgy fan noises too. Have I really bad luck or did everyone's Elite Xbox fans have increased activity and noise after update?

You've probably gone from Nidecs to Deltas or Sunnons. Check around the back to see if the fans have stickers on them.

I think you may have just hit on something there. The Xbox I have just now has Deltas in it, but I'm not 100% sure what was in my one before that.

The fans do sound fundamentally different, so I wouldn't be surprised.
The CS rep probably won't know what you are talking about, but perhaps you can request a special order if you make a fuss.
I know I wouldn't settle for Deltas. They are terrible sounding fans.

Just in case anyone didn't know - Major Nelson tweeted that MS was looking into the 'grey being the new black' problem.

And completely ignored the scaling down to 720p problem.

Well, at least they're now admitting it's a problem instead of ignoring the "Beta Testers". lol.

I actually thought it had always been 720p, I didn't think the dash ran at native 1080p for some reason.
