Is the PS2 gonna go down as the most successful consolesofar

I hope this post does not get taken the wrong way, I am not flaming or being a troll, or those other internet buzzwords.

I bought a GC at launch and absolutely love it, while everyone else had a PS2, I bypassed the PS2 and waited for the GC. To be honest I didn't think it was that good of a console and seemed to have quantity over quality stamped all over it.

However I purchased a PS2 a few weeks backs now, and I have to say it is a most impressive console. The graphics are far better than i believed, and if you pick the right titles their graphics easily rival those of the GC.

Considering it was released so long ago, the graphics can still compete, it has a DVD player (which is perfectly fine for a bedroom), a huge catalogue of games, must have titles, and is the only console that seems to retain a reasonable amount of money (If you decide to sell), even though it is the oldest and technically "most inferior".

I have never owned more than one console at a time (Being a Nintendo fan at heart), but i have to say that if you love your games you simply have to have a PS2 (Oh and a GBA, everyone seems to forget this little beauty when talking about consoles).

I personally think it will go down with the SNES as one of the best ever consoles.

I can't see it being considered by experienced gamers as one of the best ever. I'd never rank it anywhere near the SNES for example but I do enjoy my PS2 now. Mainly due to Japanese releases but it took its bloody time to get going. Pathetic launch.
It will no doubt be one of the biggest sellers ever though, along with the PS1. It won't beat the mighty Gameboy franchise and I guess relatively speaking it's not as big a phenomenon as the Famicom was in Japan but the PS series is undoubtedly the most commercially successful home console series in the west and it will continue to be unless Sony **** it up.

Back then I wasn?t interesting in the PS2 debut, happily continuing playing my PS one imports. I even bought the DC and GC before I imported a PS2 this year.

Atm it's my most used console here to. Why? Well it?s not because of the graphics always but more the wide range of good content for it especially the games made in Japan.

for me it's jus the wider range of games full stop, atm I'm pretty much limited to PAL, but PS2 has shumups, niche, and basically little hiddem gems u'd never heard of, that had they been on cube or Xbox would have been raved about purely as there is far less content on the latter 2.

i dont know whether its the best console....

but its undoubtly the most successful console so far... its managed to see off sega completely and have nintendo on the verge at times.... the gamecube has managed to hit solid ground and bringing out some class games... but not near the success of sony...

as for the x-box..... don't get me started... i just hate this machine and will leave it at that

Ps2 suprisingly enough is my most used also at the mo. Its the "exclusives" that ive got - WE7, Initial D, Chao Legion, VF Evo, Ridge Racer V, etc....... Also the joy pad is possibly the best on current gen consoles. Its the quality of some of the games. Of all my consoles ive ever brought the xbox has recieved the least attention. dunno why? i think its to do with the way the games been deivered as a whole - you know from the littlest details of character animation and packaging; to things like gameplay. Personally id luv the GC to be top dog. But PS2 it is and ps2 it shall be i guess.

Jayboy not to bust on your or anything but are you here from Gamefaqs? I mean how many does the wind current affect console sales topics do we have to have?

Still to answer your question my PS2 owns me. It has alot of games I love. So when it comes time for history to judge it, I believe it will be successful.

                  most successful? yes.

but for me, least used, and certainly the worst controller (analog sticks? gah!). but that's just personal I guess.

Successful certainly, but this isn't down to technical ability, purely marketing.

Not commenting as whether this is good or bad, simply that it is so.

not sure if the ps2 will last as long as the psone has, it should sell more than it if it manages to survive another 1-2 years selling at its current rate..

the psone beat the saturn, held off the n64 and killed the dreamcast, a far more powerful console at what was supposedly the end of the psone lifespan. PS2 has only had the xbox and GC so far, which it had a massive head start over..

in terms of games i dont see why people always complain. No other console has provided a more varied or huge variety of titles. As an example we have yet to see a traditional adventure game on the GC, yet the PS2 has: Shadow Of Memories, Escape From Monkey Island, Atlantis III, Myst 3: Exile, Syberia, Clock Tower 3 and Everblue 1+2.

The launch titles were great too!! Ridge Racer V is still unbeaten in its niche. Fantavison is a cult-classic. Aqua Aqua is an underrated gem and still one of the best puzzle titles of this generation. Timesplitters and SSX deserved the good reviews and attention they recieved. Tekken Tag, Silent Scope, Track & Field and most of the others have aged okay.

got nothing to do with it having some of the best examples of games in nearly every genre then ?

I have to say i my PS2 at least as much as the other current gen consoles. I certainly dont think it can be thought of as anything other than a huge success both commercially and critically.

Sorry to flame, but name 'em then.

It has the largest userbase, the largest collection of games, and some highly competent games. But...

Sorry, but PS2 = worst console I've ever owned.
I'm on my 2nd one, and I just don't feel much for the games I've played on it, even the so-called good stuff. Sure there are lots of good games, but a leading game in every genre? I don't think so...

GT3 is good, but nothing more. F355 is the real "real driving simulator"
VF4 Evo I've not played and not interested in, but the Sega Saturn has about a dozen shooters that kick the living **** out of Psyvariar

I'll give you Winning Eleven 7 though
