I think PS2 is easily the best for music games, 2D shooters and RPG's, but the other genres are debatable. For instance, I prefer the exclusive survival horror games on GameCube (Resident Evil 0 and Eternal Darkness) to the PS2's offering and Xbox is probably better for FPS if you like that kind of thing.

Originally posted by RazzI prefer Silent Hill TBH, and Devil May Cry (not the 2nd one) was good, so is Onimusha 1/2 (and soon to be 3, and don't forget Biohazard Outbreak. So as far as Survival Horror games go, I think PS2 is top choice.

People saying the PS2 is a rubbish console being it has more average & good games
if its attracted all the development support doesnt that mean its a sucess?
People tend to ignore that a lot of the most original, playable, different, enjoyable, deepest and best designed titles are on PS2. I actually prefer the GC these days, but ive not played it half as much as the PS2 and still dont.. the GC has some great games but little you can just put in a mess about with.. it has nothing to hold a candle to SOS:The Final Escape, Shadow Of Memories, Final Fantasy X, Shadow Hearts, Colin McRae Rally 04, WRC2, Fantavision, Aqua Aqua, Sky Odyseey, Smash Court Pro Tournament, Frequency, GT3, Gitaroo Man, Eyetoy and the list goes on.. it doesnt even have anything to rival Total Immersion Racing!!

Fantavision, the Ribbon and Parappa series, Ico, GT series, Ape Escape, Amplitude etc. SCE (their bits) have some of the best devs around yet people seem to be adamant that Sony have bought all their quality.

My mistake then.
I assumed, having seen the support that the Nana-on sha games got from Sony, and the fact they were pimped as 1st party games (ie in Sony sections at shows) and not knowing of them releasing anything else for other publishers made them a sony dev. Like AM2 have their own branding but are still a sega dev.
I didn't know that Harmonix did those games.
I forgot to mention Eyetoy though. Very good idea and shows the different direction that SCE are wanting to go compared to others. Simplification and universal joy.
Ironic that after all the third place branding - its Nintendo and MS that are both 3rd. There is no 2nd place with the gap here.

EyeToy was developed by London Studios, who as far as I can tell haven't done anything else. I think they're part of SCEE, but I'm not sure.

"What the hell?"
Sony have tried (and in part) succeeded in making games accessible for more people and different markets. Whether you think this is good or not is up to you. I think its a double edged sword but some of the benefits are obvious.
I was unaware that NanaOn-Sha had done those things. A Pippin game and a Wonderswan game. For Bandai. If I had either machine I'd consider looking into them. But I don't. I assume they are musical. The website is fantastically lo-fi. Its quite interesting - they seem to be a design collective that specialises in music games. I didn't know that Sony would take devs under their belts for a game or two - i thought they had to have a good connection to get published by them. I can't think of any devs that have had their games "just published" by Sony.
I will beg to differ on Sega = AM2. But that is not worth discussing here.

how wonderfully non-confrontational.

One more thing:

hang on, why are all you people discussing the games? did no one read the topic?
read the topic, and repeat after me: yes.
no one's asking if the PS2 is the best console, but if it's the most successful (which it is, bar possibly the GBA, which, despite being handheld, is still a console). each console has it's good points and it's bad points, there's no point in arguing over which is more powerful, or which has the best games.
