The problem I have with head turning - aside from, as you said, turning your head away from the screen - is that even if it's a little head turn to look at the rear-view mirror, the in-game camera will then turn right, which'll bring the mirror nearer the centre of the screen. If it does that, you'll then have to look left at the mirror anyway, so what was the point?

The main problem with head tracking is that unless you're in a full size surround arcade style unit it's completely and utterly useless. A fraction of eye movement is enough to cover the screen space of entire display and the only thing it can realistically display is a bit of side mirror and window which isn't of any practical use. Ultimately it's implementing the tech for the sake of it.

If you were surrounded by televisions, you wouldn't need head tracking because wherever you looked there'd be a screen.
I'm concerned about how it will react to unintentional(or unrelated) head movements, like stretching, adjusting your position or things like that. If you're driving in real life, you can move your head about but keep your eyes locked ahead, whereas Kinect won't be checking your eyes so it'll assume you want to look left/right/etc.
I think the proof will be in the pudding, but I don't think many were impressed by GT5's head tracking - will this be any different?

Well it is the first iteration of it. Of course it isn't perfect but even small things like the wing mirrors that are not needed onscreen at all times are improvements.
I agree to a degree that it is there for the sake of it but USP is the name of the game here. This is a title that can shift hardware.

does appear to be tech for tech sakes, use the extra cycles and processing power to lob in more cars or better scenery etc
can't see me standing in the middle of my lounge stroking an imaginary car either but guess both Sony & MS are struggling to work out what to do with this tracking tech as is doesn't lend itself to integration in gaming staples that well.
as long as this kinect guff is all bumfluffery and the core racing is there I'm still going to be happy.

Forza Motorsport 4
Forza Motorsport 4 has been shown off at E3 2011 and it looks incredible. They’ve stated they’ve moved out of the numbers race and have around 500 cars in the game, all previous versions have been remodelled from scratch and there’s heavy but natural support with Kinect.

Looking good for a 2011 release date.Last edited by Wools; 08-06-2011, 14:36.

24 minute demo - http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6318146...nstration?hd=1
Release seems to be October 11th.
Community stuff sounds nice. Join clans/groups and you can race your friends on/off line with their ghosts.
Hopefully the crap like car soccer and cone challenges are optional and aren't engrained into the career mode.
