    Gamecube fondly remembered

I just put a load of GC and Wii games up for sale in the sales forum. Not an easy decision as spiritually the GC is my favourite console ever. I like the underdogs e.g. GC, DC.

But I have too much stuff, and as much as it annoys me to say it, the BC PS3 can play such a vast library of games and the original Xbox with games ripped to hard disk and XBMC is a very good all-rounder. The Wii isn't, and I just can't bring myself to sell the Dreamcast (although common sense may prevail soon). So the Wii goes, and as I'll have nothing to play GC games on, they go too.

Anyway now I'm over that shock, I'd like to say I think it's amazing that in my sale at least, the GC games are going like hot cakes and the Wii ones are barely touched so far. Nice to see that in some quarters at least, the GC gets the respect that it deserved in the first place.

Still can't believe that I finish up with a PS3 ahead of the GC though - I historically hated Playstations and felt that Sony ruined gaming by taking the fun out. (Not meant to be flamebait, I was just a very opinionated person. ) Perhaps I'm getting old...

Don't think i could ever get rid of my cube collection, it had an awesome selection of games. People used to moan about how there was very little worth playing on the cube but thats because NOE did everything they could to screw uk gamers over, but if you imported then it was a wonderful experience.

I don't know, I think it's pretty good. With an easy softmod you've got the ability to not only play all region Wii games but all region GC games AND force them all into 480p (even PAL ones).

By "all-rounder" I meant in terms of *only* being a games console (yes I know...). The PS3 / Xbox are simply more all-round capable. As much as the GC / Wii catalogue has some of the best exclusives ever, if I'm trying to trim down my collection, the PS3 / original Xbox offer me more flexibility.

And even though the DC is "just" a console, its arcade flavour leads me to want to try and keep it, as I don't have much time for games these days, it's nice to dip in here and there.

It's not that hard to get your head around when you actually think about it. You've got PS1/2/3, PC Engine, Neo-Geo and DC games in one box. Pretty much the greatest line-up of all time.

GameCube is fantastic. Enjoyed it as a kid in PAL land muchly and am now rebuying all the games I owned in NTSC-U or J form to play on my spicy switched Cube via D Terminal cable. :3

I sold my Cube a while back. It's not really needed given that the Wii has BC (although titles like the multiplayer Pac Man and my JP games that used Freeloader had to go). And yes, it had loads of great games. I quite happily swapped between the GC and the PS2 last gen and thought they complemented each other quite well.

I'm at a loss as to how or why you're comparing the PS3 with the GC though.

As for the Dreamcast, NOTHING will persuade me to ever part with that...

The CUbe collection of mine is probably my most cherished.

Have the Green ToS Cube and also a bog standard purple jobbie as backup. Both NTSC switched with GBPlayers.

Game-wise I think I have every single game I wanted in my collection. Hardly any duffers although I will have to do a stock check against your sale items Topper when I can in case I missed anything.

                It's a special machine.

I'm not comparing them as such. But physically, and time-wise, I only have room for so many consoles and games in my life, hence I needed to make decisions about what to sell and keep.

                    To paraphrase Rush's "The Pass":

                    "Christ, what have I done?"

But I don't regret it too much so far, even as the jiffy bags build up in front of me. I just don't have the time to get through all the games I own. After years of deliberating, something had to give.

I'm also keeping my memory card for when I decide I've made a massive mistake and want to buy it all back, probably at increased prices. In all seriousness, one day I might be really rich and have much more spare time, and my future home entertainment room in my mansion surely won't be complete without a spice cube and four wavebirds.

                    What? It could happen...

                      Here's mine:

                      Only got two wavebirds mind.

I sold all my PS2 games last year and have sort of regretted it but it allows you to get rid of clutter really.

I couldn't see myself sell any of my GC accessories and or games.
I bought a black PAL GC with two pads, a memory card, Mario Sunshine, Resident Evil Rebirth and Rogue Squadron with my first paycheck and it's also the first console I bought in multiple editions (two modded JPN machines with US/JPN switches, an silver and a second black) after I started buying games from VGP...and before VGP there was DVD Box Office.
Not enough it was the console that moved me away from PC gaming and back into the console world.
I can see myself parting from other spectacular consoles, but not from my GCs.

Well I'm probably all alone with this, but I found the GCN a big disappointment after the N64. None of Nintendo's big games matched up to their 64-bit counterparts (Mario, Zelda, Starfox, Waverace, F-Zero, 1080), although the two Prime games are still sublime to this day. Loved the pad though
