Sigh, I wanted a new RR so bad, but not this.

Wow, it looks just like a new Need For Speed. When I say new I mean old and when I say Need For Speed I mean Bag of ****e!

As much as I'm proud of my fellow countrymen and a big fan of Flatout Ultimate Carnage, this news is a huge disappointment. Ridge Racer is the last game that should encourage any sort of crashing nonsense.

Christ, first Sega and now Namco. What happened to these devs?

An action-packed teaser trailer was shown, featuring crashes and street racing. According to Namco Bandai, it will show what Reiko Nagase – Ridge Racer’s female star – ‘gets up to at the weekend.’

Plays and drives ***** looking burnout and NFS Pro Street clones?

( btw loved flatout , so no dis to bugbear, guess there getting advice , albeit bad , from Namco what the next RR should be. )

There was a rumour last E3 that due to some severe accounting error back in 2007, Namco risked losing money the more Ridge Racer made compared with the rest of its IP. But because they couldn't make this public, they couldn't bury the series without questions. So they were looking for another way of killing the series. I never thought there was any truth to that rumour that I just made up but, now, well it could turn out to be true.

So I take it that this is the driving game equivalent of Nero's "twilight" cosplay.

Was that taxi made of helium?

Just seen the trailer. Two words. Utter balls.

That looks nothing like Reiko for a start.

Also, just read on Eurogamer that Namco have said no RR for NGP!

                  Jeeeeeesus!!!

All of a sudden, Ridge Racer 3D isn't looking half as awful as I thought it did.

I find it scary that Japanese franchises feel the need to copy western games because they think it will sell. Keep it quirky.

Hope they're working on RRVIII in Japan.

Thats whats depressing Japanese company are feeling the pressure from the top to make the franchise sellable worldwide, they seem to have lost sight of what makes Ridge Racer different from all the rest.
Conforming will only cause Ridge Racer fans to not bother and non-ridge fans probably are content with all the others already on the market.

Christ. That trailer is terminally ****e. I'm pretty sad about it. I doubt it'll be a bad game, it just most definitely won't be Ridge.

Another one bites the dust, I guess.

As much as I get tired of people slating a game on the basis of a teaser, I'm going to be hypocrite and join in. I've been looking forward to a Ridge Racer game for a while, and would have gladly bought Ridge Racer 8. This looks like it could be a very interesting racer - I did enjoy Bugbears last Flatout for 360 - but its just not Ridge Racer.

TBH I'm not surprised by this, RR style games can't complete with today's driving franchises such as Burnout and NFS - Purely from a mass market requirement point of view.

This could be quite good actually, I thought the flatout game was great fun, just faaaar too hard but be under no illusion, this will be a Ridge Racer game in name only.

If they get the Ridge handling right but on tracks with 'real world' traffic like NFS Hot Pursuit it could be very good. From the teaser it looks like they could almost be going down a Burnout Revenge style route.
