The name is hilariously bad - and the trailer is crap. I really like RR7, so I've been hoping for RR8, but this news just fills me with negativity.

The whole racing game scene is pretty lame overall. You can't even rely on top Japanese publishers to make great racing games. What a sad state of affairs.

I think Namco should have put Ridge Racer 7 on every PS3 bundle at first six months at launch. Then it will increase massive following from worldwide for people who never play ridge racer then Namco release Ridge Racer 8 with dual shock rumble, steering wheel, trophies and more and see it clean up the market.

I am sick of games companies releasing games which is not good enough to stand on it own feet. Why waste resources in making poor games. Instead of making 10 average games they should make 4 great games.

It's sounded very Burnout Paradise for a while now and this mini interview does nothing to shake those thoughts:

Well EA appeared to do a quick about-turn with SSX: Deadly Descents so maybe Namco will listen to...

          Ah, who am I kidding.

I still don't think it should be called Ridge Racer but I'm not gonna write this off completely yet purely on the basis that the devs racers so far have been pretty fun. Not classics but I'm curious to see what they do with it

How have I not already posted in this thread to chime in on how terrible this name is? Oh well, rectified I guess!

Not sure what to make of this. Not worth them trying to take on Burnout as far as I'm concerned, but I'd be all over a proper new Ridge game. :/

As a diehard Ridge Racer fan, I’ve had a change of heart over this announcement.

I played a bit of Ridge Racer 7 recently and whilst drifting around the tracks like they were on the back of my hand, I realised it was a little bit stale. I fired up Ridge Racer Type 4 to compare and was blown away by the style and change of pace. Type 4 has always been a favourite, so it’s a little unfair to make the comparison, but the difference is night and day. Type 4 is pushing all the technology of the PlayStation and all the while, making a bold, stylistic change of direction that really made it stand out of the crowd.

Ridge Racer 7 is a beautifully constructed but stale racing game that is almost too clinical in its references and track design. Rather than choose a direction and pave the way, it looks back to its past and replicates it in a new age. Although Ridge Racer 1 & 2 on PSP were glorious and Ridge Racer 7 is polished, it’s been far too long since Namco took the series in a new direction, just as Rage & Type 4 did all those years ago.

Criterion looked at what made Need for Speed special on the 3D0 a few decades ago, done away with the changes, and developed the modern interpretation of that original vision. AM2 were not as shocking in their sequel to the seminal Outrun, but Outrun 2 was a glorious and revitalising racing game.

Whatever the outcome of Bugbear’s retelling, it’s clear to me that Ridge Racer has become stale and inward looking. Namco need to realise what made the original so involving with its open streets, complex drift model and atmospheric style all of its own, and bring it to modern consoles or arcades.

                      Gameplay trailer.

Words can't describe, I shall just wait for next gen when Namco JPN will make a new Ridge Racer.
Fingers crossed NGP Ridge Racer will come out looking better with no UNBOUNDED tagline.

                        HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I enjoyed Burnout Paradise as much as the next man but it just isn't Ridge Racer.

                          Mary Poppins.

There's not an ounce of Ridge's soul in there.

It looks pretty decent to me bar the branding choice. If I put the name aside I'm open to seeing how this turns out

Handling looked a bit twitchy to me and the cars seem to be made of hollow plastic.
