It's testament to Capcom's idiocy that kyo called it pan scan

    Comment

The PSN/XBLA version isn't that bad either. The attract intro seems to have been edited for some crap (RE4's is completely cut) but it seems to have almost double the framerate and I actually liked the lighting that has replaced a lot of the fog from the original.

As for console releases, get Kanzenban on the DC. Its the best. I must still have it somewhere, also loved the Antarctica cover.

That's all well and good but is it cropped?

Or hey, is it just zoomed letterboxed like the PS2/Wii game?

Haha! Consider my mind officialy bent then!

If it's not a pan scan then what do you call it??

I suppose it can be described as pan scan (though pan scan implies a more intelligent, selective approach). It's really just straight-up cropping.

So yea.. anyway.. considering the non-HD-ness AND the cropping.. i cant justify the price really... shame

A little late to the party, but I've finally bought this, the physical disc version.

Y'know, I'm the kind of person who would be driven mad by any kind of cropping, but in this case I really don't notice it. I suspect the overall viewing area is still larger, even if some vertical is lost. It is clearly rendered in proper resolution. The MT Framework splash screen before the game is curious, too.

As for Resident Evil 4, it's definately rendered in proper resolution and aspect ratio, no 'zooming' trickery like on the PS2 and Wii versions. This is probably the best incarnation of both games.

The disc version is strange. It doesn't really even execute, it just brings up an installer within the XMB to install straight to the HDD. The games install like regular PSN games, except they check for the disc in boot up.

                    Just like Tekken Hybrid then.

So you think CV is worth a purchase? I adore all the old school Resi's, and any change/zoom would annoy me greatly...

I certainly didn't notice any trickery in Resi 4 HD either...

It is the best version of CV without a doubt. I'd be interested to see some comparison screenshots because it certainly doesn't *feel* cropped. If it is, then I suspect the overall viewing area is still larger.

Damn, you r got me wanting to pay the extortionate amount for the 360 d/l now!!

yeah get CV I didn't notice the cropping at all, best way to play it easily!

I'll always remain biased towards the Dreamcast game, but I have no complaints with this port. It's not a 'remake', it has simply been given a resolution boost, but we expected this.

And quite frankly, anyone who had only experienced the rubbish PS2 version will probably appreciate the additional visual clarity.

Although they replaced the original attract mode for whatever reason, CV HD is the best version. It has the highest framerate, best lighting (a lot of fog is being replaced) and fastest load times. People mainly dismiss this because its not a true HD upgrade, which is true, but the old versions are not going to look better than this on HDTV.

I am not sure about RE4's res though. The subtitles look very big and square ish.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but some of the mods for the PC Version of RE4 are pretty special. It's a shame that it doesn't have surround sound though...
