Maybe lack of resources, too comfortable living off past glories, short cutting by not really upping their game in certain areas i.e animations, plus things that worked were starting to not work i.e cursor changing on co-op to name one of hundreds. Add to all that, the bar raised by EA.

Very lazy too, thinks lacking general polish, not to mention spelling mistake banners that have been around for years.

To be fair both footie games were a bit poor last year. Fifa 11 was disappointing. The online lag in clubs, the 5 second freezing in games, and the glitches in manager mode. I'm glad EA have said they have overhauled the game engine. It's time they needed to.

I hope EA don't rest on their laurels because Fifa is far from perfect.

Ive never had those problems on FIFA 11. The one major one I have is mic problems when playing clubs with friends.

Ah I see. I'm a noob at footy games. FIFA on 3do was the last one I invested any real time into. I know enough to know that pes held the crown in the last era. Most of my mates played that over FIFA. Wonder why konami were unable to make the transition?

Its not so much that PES are not good games (though they arent really), its more to do with the fact that the recent FIFA games have been so good, they are a very accurate representation of football, as Prototype says they have faults, but its mainly to do with stuff like how the manager mode is implemented, as far as gameplay goes FIFA is near perfection.

PES just hasnt really chaged or improved much over the last 10 years, the animations feel old, the gameplay hasnt really altered and in many cases it has actualy feels more sluggish to play. All the current gen PES games have felt lazy and the series basicaly needs a complete overhaul to be anywhere near as good as FIFA.

I enjoyed last years version but that fizzled out after about 6 months as I got side tracked with other titles. Have to agree... they havent quite got the formula right and I feel most fans of the series are losing the patience for them to finally deliver what should be a class A product. In comparison FIFA seems to develop year on year in the right direction. That isnt perfect either but every year they add a bit more, refine what was in last year and really develop on an iterative cycle.

Konami seem to scrap and re-invent as a cycle and unless they fluke one I think it's a game on the decline.

Do we know what FIFA has up it's sleeve this year?

That's often true when playing single player, but when playing against someone who's actualy good at the games it's not the case. Holding down the button to close down opponents is very predictable and unless the button is used right it can be easily be avoided by someone who knows what they are doing.

I don't think it needs to be changed that much really, just tweak the ai so it's harder to snatch the ball off the lower teams when playing solo.

Don`t forget too PES goin multi format could not have helped development. It was a Playstation and PS2 exclusive back in the day. If it was PS3 exclusive it would prob be better I believe.

Would not go that far PES 6/WE 10 is still as close to perfect football if you ask me.Fifa is still way off near perfection in gameplay. Its animations and atmosphere are pretty amazing though.

PES 6 is far less close to perfection that WC 2010 and Fifa 11. It was amazing in the day but it is far too limited now and the series was multiformat from PES 4 which did it no harm.

WC2010 is amazing and perhaps the best football game ever made.

I always thought Football Kingdom looked awesome, gutted I've never had a chance to play it.

Football Kingdom is decent but miles too fast and it gets really easy really fast. It was a great first effort and could have evolved into something amazing.
