Don't want another home console for a while yet. Looking forward to bigger portable experiences though.

As someone who bought a PS3 late last year and just replaced his broken Xbox 360 with a new one:

Not in a couple of years.

No from me too, more than likely we'll see shorter single player modes and more broken titles on release on the PS4/XB720

If a new generation of machines came out within the next year I would probably give up the hobby. At the end of the PS2's life the number of quality games was huge, it felt like gaming was in the middle of a renaissance or something. There was no way I could pass up on a PS3 after the likes of DMC3, Snake Eater, SotC etc.

This gen hasn't really lived up to that promise (mostly because of the drop in quality of Japanese games) and at this point I'm not excited at all about what the next gen might have to offer. It'll need to go for a few more years on the current systems before that could happen.

Only Nintendo really need new hardware right now, I'm pretty happy with my PS3 as I use it mostly as a media centre.

I am really looking forward to the next gen as this gen has been my least favourite of all but i still think its too early. I'd say 3rd quarter of 2013 would be the time for Sony & Microsoft to release their new consoles.

              Oh@Solar great avatar!

I can wait a couple of years though as I've got tons to play already on current systems with plenty more on the horizon and won't be getting a 3d tv anytime soon.
You can't have all that AND shorter loading times. That's just physics. Things like AI aren't computationally expensive at runtime.

I'd be quite happy with several more years of this innovation. Amping up the horsepower will just hurt innovation.

I'm happy about Project Cafe, but no the 360 and PS3 most definitely do NOT need an upgrade. I don't think they will for another 3-4 years either, and will be hard pressed to sell a new console before then.

I also don't really think it's needed. Having said that, all I play is Wipeout HD and the Cave shooters on 360. I need nothing more from the consoles at the moment as I have neither the time nor interest to play any of the new titles, like the much hyped LA Noire. I might get that when it's much cheaper, but right now, I really don't feel the desire to play it. I don't even know what type of game it is!

I see the xbox 360 being like the dreamcast for me in many ways. There will be a new system, but I will pick up some excellent titles for tuppence when a new system is out.

I think most people agree that it isn't necessary to release a new system. Perhaps just like the PSP where there was a kind of secret option to boost clock speed to 333mhz, the PS3 / 360 also have something?

Though I must say the new batch of PC software that have console equivalents is starting to widen graphic wise.
If anything the console's screen resolution is a bit low. 720p for most games isn't great after having seen some PC resolutions of the same game.

I don't want it for another five years.

I'd love it if the next-gen was upon us. Nothing better than new hardware to get gamers excited again!

Yeah it would be cool to see but no real need. The next upgrade personally will have to be next gen consoles and a bigger 1080p TV. A lot of investment right there. Take a look at Crysis 2 to see that we don't NEED it right now though, not the inept by comparison LA Noire.

What we need is more imagination. Arcade style titles run great on current hardware, RPGs are fine too. New hardware won't reduce the bugs that are sure to crop up in the stunning looking Skyrim. Everything's cool as it is. Apart from wii. Can't believe I got suckered into buying that system. Twice. ;-). Even that though has amazing games, it just looks. Bit ropey on a big telly.

Next gen the studios really need to start moving away from the patch mentality this gen as devolved into with proper playtesting introduced before games are released. There's been a ton of shockingly unnecessarilty broken games this gen.
