Why do you always call uncharted "drakes"?

I think I would be easy either way, there is some need for having more space on the disc (at least with the Xbox 360) and looking back at say the previous Nintendo consoles they release a new home console every 5 years approx so they could get away with it. I just don't think I am interested in the current home console market. While I am really pleased things like Deus Ex 3 and Skyrim are on the way there is so much poor quality waggle gaming its tiresome.

Its clear the big players are caring more for the denominator than making games for gamers I would give anything to see a new piece of hardware that doesn't rely on gimmicks but actually impressive technical specs. After about 5-6 years of a majority console gaming I have switched back to being on the PC.

For two reasons, I upgraded to a semi decent rig for what in PC hardware upgrades was much cheaper than the last time I did it.
PC games are cheaper and often look better than their console counterparts. I can plug in the xbox controller for most of them. I don't have to worry about getting chat messages off freaks or having a plinky plonky family fun dashboard.

I think this could be a big reason why people dont want to see new consoles yet, its a fear of the future.

I mean the posibilty of motion controlled gaming taking over is becoming quite real and alot of people (myself included) hate that. Trouble is its all about making money, the Wii has been so popular despite having very few A grade titles in comparison to the other two consoles, and then even alot of the best Wii games dont focus on the motion controls too much.

If motion control gaming becomes the norm in a few years then many of us might stop playing games entierly as we dont particuarly find waving our arms about infront of the TV very fun.

Do I want the new next generation? Hell yeah. I've been wanting it for a while. I wanna be wowed again by a game's graphics, by it's draw rate, by the sheer amount of stuff going on on screen, by it's physics. I remember playing PGR3, GRAW, Hitman and Oblivion and being completely spellbound, I want that again.

Amen to that, PGR3 for the first time was real treat. I'm sure if a new generation came around almost everyone here would jump right on board.

I guess that is a good point, its worrying really that it may become to norm.

Yeah, There's nothing quite like having a new console and being blown away by the vastly improved visuals and audio on offer. Bar PGR3 I was very disappointed with the 360 until GRAW shipped and OMG if that game didn't just wow me with amazing visuals and graphics that the last gen just couldn't offer.

It is brilliant a feeling when you get new hardware I was ever impressed with the visuals of Altered Beast on the MD (they were a clear step up) and was just draw dropped when I saw F-Zero for the the 1st time, never mind the seeing DOA III, Virtual Fighter, Mario 64 , Star Ward RS II running on one's TV on your brand new console for the 1st time.

To me when you buy a new console you aren't expecting AAA games on the domestic launch and ones to be better than everything that's gone before from day 1 on your new Console You just want to be wowed by graphics and see stuff that the last Gen couldn't do, that's what you pay the money for on launch; The AAA games and the price cuts for the console comes latter.

That's the problem today though. Back in the Golden Age you expected at least one AAA on launch which was going to impact your 'top10 of all time' list, now we're just happy with tech demos. All merit to Nintendo, I think the DS has been the only console range with poor launch line-ups, maybe the Gamecube as well. Sega were never too bad at this either.

To be honest I think that's part of why the launch of a new line of systems doesn't strike a massive chord with me anymore. Whilst it's true that when you buy a new system you want to be wowed by the graphics, on launch the 360 and PS3 completely failed to do this and the evidence so far from things like EPICs graphics demo suggest we won't be wowed again. The days of Mode 7, 3D game spaces etc style impact are behind us and we're increasingly seeing evolution in power rather than revolution and that takes a lot of the shine out of launch years.

                          ?

The Game Cube and Wii Domestic launches were some of the worst ever (a marked come down from the Snes and N64) , not only in terms of average games , but games that did little to do something that previous consoles didn't do before (the irony was Cube was Saved by SEGA's Monkey Ball) SEGA never had a great track record either, but SEGA tented to go very early and so at least its games looked a step up above the rest

It's got nothing to do with the Golden Age at all, because even in the Golden age there wasn't a great deal of choice or AAA games shipped ready for day 1 . Imo the X-Box had the best domestic launch of any console to date and most people won't say that was the Golden age at all, but I don't expect or think it's realistic to expect a number of AAA games for day on a console domestic launch, all I'm looking for is 1 decent game and a game to show off the new console abilities over the previous gen.

I haven't been that struck with this generation. The last was far better. My current collection stands at between 20 and 30 games for each of the three consoles this gen. Last gen, well the the PS2 had loads! And as for the DC. I bought more for that than any other I think.

Nintendo have lost me this time around. Can't remember when it was last switched on. Bowling when pissed probably. As for the DS, well we bought the XL recently. It's sat on the shelf. Really doesn't grip me. Not sure why. Repetition breeds contempt perhaps?

I really don't know how you can say that. Playing PGR 3 was a truly draw dropping event in HD, way and above anything that was possible on the X-Box and a game that totally and utterly blew me away , driving down the Brooklyn Bridge was the highlight for me
The PS3 I never got at launch, but seeing Motorstorm running was just as impressive and a marked jump over and above anything that was possible on PS2. Hell I was impressed for months with the 360 front end and market place features .

Did people say the same after the DC -Oh the Jumps won't be so high , they're all run at much the same res, play at much the same speed ECT. Only that Halo and DOA III (and lets not forget how incredible DOA II looked) totally and utterly blew away the GFX on the DC from day one

                                No.

I have a backlog of around a dozen current gen games, a list of "to buy" which is just as long, not to mentions dozens of retro games I still want to play.

Replayed Uncharted 2 recently, and it's so gorgeous I actually had trouble taking it all in. When you're running and gunning you don't notice the beautiful water textures and the rest. I had to stop on several occasion to slowly look around and take it in.

It doesn't feel like the PS3 has been anywhere nearly tapped out yet.
