This seems bad. Apart from the bird at the temple demo, the graphics looked worse that PS360. The tablet didn't look as good as an iPad when on a table. And everything the controller does (apart from the camera/accelerometer) should have been done with previous handhelds and their consoles, I'm still dissapointed that there was no DS/Wii linkup in games. Vita would link better with the PS3 than this controller. The whole WiiU thing with all the old peripherals makes it seem like another pointless upgrade ala DS/DSlite/DSi/DSiXL/3DS rather than a new console. I remember when they announced the Wii Remote they said it would simplify controllers. Now, they have the remote, nunchuk, board, gun, tablet, and your 3DS handheld which wont link up to the WiiU despite it being in a way similar to their controller. And the lack of multi-touch is still so old-fashioned.
Sigh. Seems PSVita is the best thing so far this conference

only just finished perusing the highlights of the show...
Wii U seems totally pointless to me but I am still scarred from the Wii so would need it to be the best thing ever to even think of buying one anyway. I just dont know who its aimed at...a massive LOL at any house with young children having that controller lying around!!
Mario 3d, Luigis Mansion 2 and Mario Kart 3D make me happy...tho not a surprise in any way (well...LM2 is I spose)
So from the 3 mains it means Microsoft have literally NOTHING I care about, Sony have the VITA and tho its not theirs it was at their show, BioShock Infinite.
Slight Sony win for me, then Ninty then no-one....my Xbox can go to he great cupboard in the sky later in the year incase I buy Gears3...

Nintendo's conference could have really hit it home. It was unclear if it was 1080p until after the show. Obviously no games were ready to go. If they would have just said "Wii U" 1080p, HDMI" and maybe even shown a short video of Zelda/Mario/etc. in 1080p that would have made me extremely excited. All we ended up seeing was 3rd party content that will be out this year (or next year) on other consoles that was even admitted to being 360/PS3 footage. Sure there's going to be brand new simultaneous releases on all 3 consoles when the Wii-U ships, I just don't think many people will want to pick up Batman, Darksiders II 6-12 months after PS3 and 360 get it.
Also they showed a controller, then a Wiimote, then games that looked like Wii 1 games (which were later found out to be actual Wii-U games). I was extremely confused with what they were showing. The 3rd party developers told us in that video it was a new console, not Nintendo.
Yes, the controller is a selling point but even Reggie said that it's just a box. No it's not. We wanted to know what kind of formats it plays, backwards compatibility, and that it was 1080P. He also said it's up to their gaming partners to explain and show the online capabilities of the console. They should really tell us themselves the fundamentals. Friend codes, etc.
It's still early, so I don't know if I'm making sense with what I'm posting but thought I would put in my babble here.
Now, onto the 3DS I was very impressed by some of the things they showed. Especially considering how much they are pushing all these new games for end of year. Luigis Mansion, Star Fox, Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros, Kid Icarus. Could you imagine if they waited to release the 3DS this Christmas how awesome their launch lineup would have been? I think with these all coming out this Christmas, the 3DS will be a strong seller as there is a huge heap of great games to look forward to this "Holiday Season"

The lack of intricate detail will be due to timing, the system will be at E3 next year having not been released so they just want to generate interest right now which they succeeded in. Blu Ray is unlikely, PS3 level visuals are assured and 1080p across the board is unlikely though Nintendo won't ever out right say as 99% of the audience don't care.

so basically they are doing to the Wii what the Wii did to the Gamecube, slightly more powerfull, backwards compatable, new style controller.
except this time the controller is just completey rediculious, probably going to cost about half the price of the console if you want another.
i think they have lost the plot and will loose out big time and have to rely on the 3ds for any income. sony/MS buy out anyone? Zelda on playstation/Xbox coming 2013!!!

I'll be honest, I'm surprised anyone is excited about this. That pad is a monstrosity, I can't see why anyone would look to it for a game. And it's not doing anything a proper portable can't do if you stop and think about it.

Have I wandered onto Gamefaqs, some of the comments in here are truly astounding.
It was certainly an odd reveal, I'd assumed they just hadn't finalised the box design until the press releases revealed more pictures etc.
They'll definately have to market this carefully, the benefits of average joe being able to use his stack of wii games/peripherals straight out of the box shouldn't be understated. From my point of view, it'll be nice to be able to select a Wii-u version of a multiplatform game and not have to worry about it being massively gimped visually. With the promise of first party titles in HD and providing the controller feels nice to use, I'm excited to see what they have in store come TGS and next year's e3.

It's probably a blue diode type format but it's not Blu Ray.
The CPU is the same family of IBM CPU as used in the Watson system (the one that won at Jeopardy) using a 45nm process (which is suprising as most CPUs use 32nm now as it's cheaper and cooler).
AMD have confirmed their GPU is in the console but would only say it's a custom design.
One thing spotted at NeoGAF: the images Nintendo gave out for Zelda weren't true 1080p, they were upscaled 720p. Make of that what you will...
