The ironic thing here is that Nintendo claimed that they were going to learn from the mistakes of the 3DS launch pricing. By again refusing to price it themselves, they're absconding from blame and allowing retailer greed to rear it's ugly head again. History is repeating and Nintendo are once again in danger of becoming their old rivals Sega. Was going to see about getting one to enjoy over Christmas but that won't be happening now. If they want to retain their "one generation behind" stance then they need to realize that superior gaming machines are now about half this price.
What is the point of next gen hardware if you're not going to produce next gen software for it? Is the Wii-U even "Next Gen" hardware? A 720p port of an almost 12 month old game would suggest not.

There will be a lot of day one buyers but I think they will be surprised by how many fence sitters there will be this time, a lot of my friends that are gamers are adopting the same approach as me (wait and see), maybe im just getting old in that I don't feel like I must own all 3 of the systems on day 1 any more. Having said I already know when I'll fold and buy one, sub ?150 or Zelda
HD but this time (and it applies to all of them Sony, Nintendo, MS, Ouya) I'm waiting for some good stuff to appear on tthem before I buy missed far too many XBOX and PS2 classics by being an early next gen jumper last time

The way I see it is: I want one, I've paid a deposit to guarantee myself one for launch day. If launch day comes around and I don't feel 100% comfortable with the price I will wait until April-ish next year and get one for my Birthday.
Saying that I've got ?200 on a Game giftcard so really it's only ?110!!
If you try to justify it to yourself you shouldn't be doing it, right?

I tried to justify a 3DS XL to myself. The difference in that case was that I loved the Dsi XL that much I had to have a 3DS that sat nicer in the hands. I didn't buy it for the games as I already had something which would play them, which is exactly the same situation here.
Except I can't use a Wii-U on a bus.

I wouldn't consider the WiiU next gen hardware as the GPU is only DX10 equivalent so its going to struggle, saying that its certainly going to be more capable than current gen hardware seeing as its 7 years old. It's a not quite next gen but still better than what we have got gen machine.

I'm sure they will sell out all their stock at the current price. Next year console availability will be better, and then they will announce more titles and maybe a price drop to grow their market. Usual launch tactic. Even Michael "Always right" Pachter agrees on this: http://www.computerandvideogames.com...-2013-pachter/
Not that they can do any wrong in your eyes it could launch for a grand and demand you give them your left testicle and I'm pretty sure you would find a way to defend itbut in all seriousness it's priced just out of impulse purchase price (everyone knows sub ?200 is golden for a console launch just look at the 3dsxl launch compared to the 3ds or vita launch)has far too many unknowns for my liking we know nothing about region coding, battery life of the tablet controller and if it will have long term 3rd party software support or if it's goodnight the minute next gen hits. I'll look forward to reading your review of the hardware and launch stuff though
