I said cost effectiveness, why waste money on a 360 or a PS3 when you can stump up around 2.5x the cost and play everything current gen 4x times clearer and smoother?

People expect a power jump on the previous gen but not for it to be earth shattering in crunching poly's. Otherwise the PS3, Xbox, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast etc would have all done far better. Any console launching at 400 is doomed. Don't get me wrong, I would expect a 400 premium sku for the likes of us but not as a base model for the masses. Even the PC next gen demos so far haven't been that amazing looking, we're in an incremental age and knee deep in recession. If you're not Apple you'd be stupid to come in high.

I personally think the input required to really blow minds on a graphical level has almost reached a singularity point.
If you want Hollywood CGI graphics in-game you'd need a HUGE box with LIQUID NITROGEN COOLING that costs THOUSANDS with software developed by HUNDREDS of artists on a budget of HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. Waiting two more years isn't going to bring those expectations down to a $300 level.
Ain't gonna happen.
I'd be happy with current visuals and a solid 60fps (no compromise). IE: My PC.Last edited by dataDave; 23-10-2012, 07:55.

The Wii is probably a very good example of what to expect of WiiU. It's one of those marmite things but we were all never Nintendos focus. Ffor many hetr the WiiU won't be worth getting for a long time but they have a solid basis to make the system a commercial success even if not up to its predecessors standards.

PC gaming's where it's at now. You want next gen graphics? Show us yer money!
A: Microsoft and Sony are going to be paying out for Exclusives
B: A PC running Current gen PC games at 1080p/60fps won't be doing next gen titles at that resolution/framerate.
It's cyclical, the exact same thing happened 7 years ago.

To be fair, current PCs have been next gen for a while. You can't compare Borderlands 2 on a console to it on a PC, maxed and modded, for example. Visually it's like comparing PS2 and PS3 games. All consoles have going for them, for me anyway, are exclusives, which are becoming fewer and fewer, and ease of use, which isn't an issue if you know your way around a PC.

PC has as many exclusives as consoles do so that's just swings and roundabouts. Some devs will badly optimise the PC ports, just like some of the consoles experienced but devs do seem to be focusing a lot more on PC now. I don't think we're looking a total history repeat this time. I'd still buy a console if there are exclusives I want to play but right now the diversity of titles on PC is mind blowing.

A better comparison would be something like BF3 @ 1080p on Ultra vs Consoles, that shows way more where Next Gen consoles will be heading.

PC's will always be able to do the next thing better than a console simply because they are upgradable, but I much prefer the simplicty of a console vs PC, even though I recently built a new one. If M$ incorporated XBL properly into the PC experience with the possibity of cross gaming then I doubt I would get a next gen Xbox, but I can't see that somehow.Last edited by originalbadboy; 23-10-2012, 11:17.
