MvC3 shares many similarities with TvC (control, gameplay structure, X-Factor for Baroque, etc.), but I do feel that it recreates quite a few of the mistakes made with MvC2 - no balance, some truly cheap infinites and horribly overpowered characters.
MvC3 has done absolutely nothing to change my opinion that MvC1 remains the best in the series hands-down, even though it clearly isn't as popular as the other two - it is by far the most balanced and measured vs. fighting experience, imho. I'd love to see MvC1 get a XBLA/PSN release to complete the trilogy but it's highly unlikely at this point.
All of that said...I'll probably pick up UMvC3 (sold my copy of MvC3), as I'm hoping that it'll be more balanced...but i'm not holding my breath.
