Isn't the question how much desire do they have to implement it? As you say, they're likely going to be weighing up the effect on impulse buys. I'd say you've read the situation perfectly. I think if they came to the decision to go for it, it wouldn't take someone like MS long to build one extra step into a purchase.

Not related to MS but I keep getting passwords reset attempts on my Steam account. Just received something like the fourth one since the middle of December.

Someone's definitely trying to force their way into my account and must have got the details from their recent hack. It's a pretty grim feeling.

If 2011 was the year that online hacking blew up,I predict 2012 is going to be the year where it just keeps exploding.

What's interesting about that NeoGAF guy who says he was kicked out of his account for having the initial as his name is this on twitter

@Stepto Could you explain this policy? neogaf.com/forum/showpost…

Stephen Toulouse in reply to @CaptainKrake

@CaptainKrake no such policy exists. If it did, my account would be in violation.

So either the NeoGAF guy or Stepto is lying. Or someone is customer support is not a very nice person.

Oh and the woman who has hacked and made a fuss isn't letting it go (good for her). She's set up a site to collate peoples stories and is asking for people to email their stories.

Has anyone said it is? What I find more alarming are the attitude of the Writers (your new spelling seems more accurate now). I thought Writing was a noble pursuit, the pursuit of truth. Not when it comes to videogames. Seems to me Writers are more PR agents than anything else Just write what you're told, that's it.

Exactly. There seems to be little debate. I post my experiences with the debacle and ask questions, and a bunch of people post back the MS stance. I'm simply sticking to the facts and from there wondering what is going on. No answers have been forthcoming.

Don't leave, Flabio. I've always enjoyed our debates.

Besides, aren't we all just following this guide on how to debate online?

My Prediction : Nothing comes of this.

Some people say it was just phishing.
Some people insist it was a grand conspiracy and a huge cover up regardless of what is said.

And there you go again. By your argument, if you don't buy the "Phising" line, then you're a conspiracy nut. I see no-one here saying that. I do see people saying MS can't be relied on to tell the truth, but maybe you do believe only 3% of launch 360's suffered from the RROD and the other 97% are still being used daily

I want to see proper video game journalism. I am very tired of the gaming press being no more than PR agents.

There are 4 people so blindly defending MS in this thread; 2 are "Writers", one is employed by MS, and the other is Boris. That tells me plenty

All everyone else wants is AN EXPLANATION and for the STEALING TO STOP. And according to some of you, those things are too much to ask.

I agree with your prediction, only without the frantic straw man building.

Plenty of people find you amusing too, so I guess it all balances out.

Anyway, I'm out of this thread. I'll observe from the sidelines and watch the hysteria continue. Nobody is going to change your mind!

They definitely have to make changes to protect people from this but still keep the existing convienience of purchasing, the question is how long will it take to implement?
Seeing as this has been going on for several months now, it is absolutely shocking that they haven't implemented it already. What's equally mystifying is that some seem happy for Live customers to be put at risk in this way as it is inconvenient for MS to put in a simple 2nd step in to the whole purchases process (or at the very least give their customers the option to choose this). It might affect Microsofts bottom line to do so but why bother when their customers can take the hit in their pocket instead. Suck it up.

Holy crap, I also drew the same conclusion as Matt about how the defenders are all writers for a journalistic website, and was going to make a joke about it, but couldn't be arsed to type it out.

Phew - dodged a ban bullet there, methinks...

                            EDIT:
oh no, I've actually gone and done what I said I hadn't done, thereby not dodging anything at all!!! By Jimminy, I am bowing out of this thread. Good days to you all, kind sirs.

Can someone confirm this for me. I've changed my hotmail/windows live password via my laptop. When I login (auto login) on XboxLive it doesnt ask for the new password. I can login to Xbox.com with the new password. So my question is my hotmail/Live account all one account, and do changes to one affect all?
