Yes, alas art takes time. Telling MS how to sort ****, that's easy

And I do mean easy. Any chump could do it Look at the problem, work out a way to stop it. They could have me, or employ a PR division of hundreds to work on the Denial Approach. Ahem.

@TTK Yeah, if it was a full-on hack as big as Sony's then, yes, I'd hope you're right.

Edit: Man this thread is moving fast! Boris, yes, you're right. More reason I'd be skeptical of any admission until the situation was forced.

It's exactly what Itunes does, but they still have account breaches even with that protection.
Any change to the dashboard and the entire payment structure of all of Microsoft's services is never going to be quite as simple as you make it out to be.

Even businesses I've worked in that rely on their network infrastructure are frightened to do something as "simple" as upgrade their web browsers from the incredibly insecure IE6 to something else, for fear of causing havoc and disruption to their complex setups and proprietary software.

I'd like to point out that I had been intending to import an American 360 this month with my latest freelancer cheque, received for work done over Christmas. After seeing how MS are handling this, and ****ing over honest users by deleting their accounts for using an initial instead of a first name, I don't want to touch them.

I'm lost for words at how utterly ****ed this all is.
To be fair though this is only half as angry as Mass Effect 2 being slightly less complicated than Mass effect 1 got you....

This thread and the Ocean PR thread really have me questioning why I bother coming to this site anymore.

Because they're only two threads in the whole forum? There are so many other threads that I haven't even looked in the Ocean PR one...

Yes, but this is MS. They should be at the forefront of system integration.

I don't think anyone is denying other companies have breaches. This is NOT an anti-MS thread, so the usual suspects can stop being so protective.

The fact is the system was never adequate to begin with (he says thinking back to trying to get his bank card taken off his Live account many years ago), and right now there's a huge spate of theft going on. I have no idea how much theft goes on with other services. More or less, I have no idea. Maybe others have seen the same surge that seems to be going with Live.

The key phrase is "I have no idea". Neither does anyone else in this thread.

Not everything is a huge conspiracy.

Have there ever been any reports of the FIFA scam affecting PS3 users? Assuming PS3 customers aren't somehow completely impervious to phishing techniques and trojan keyloggers etc, then MS have got to accept responsibility for the vunerability in their system (not present in Sony or Nintendo's online services) and fix it. To carry on regardless just saying "The FIFA '12 and other similar incidents are cases of social engineering or phishing, which are industry wide problems", shows a pretty shocking disregard for their customers.

There is a good chance that should you of used the same email/password for both services they will have access to your PSN account should they wish to.

The thing is, they can't purchase anything because they don't have your card details thus making it a futile exercise. These people are taking control of gamer tags, loading them with points/games then selling them online.

                          This.

I used to like this place, but it's so full of people who don't debate, they just post their POV over and over without even reading the replies that it's not worth it anymore.

Done with it. Does anyone know of any gaming forum that isn't ****e? Might see you there one day.

Yeah I get that and honestly I'm not being disingenous at all, I just can't comprehend why MS then continue with a system that allows others to have access to your card details thus making it a very profitable venture, whilst (currently at least) "it's a futile exercise" on their competitor's formats.

Debate what?? either that XBL was hacked or phised, heres what the wiki says on debating, Debate or debating is a method of interactive and representational argument, also from the wiki In philosophy and logic, an argumentis an attempt to persuade someone of something ( ie to me somebody POV).

I presume the system that exists allows for one click purchases and encourages impulse buys for the millions of users using it. The downside being what has happened to some users, Microsoft probably see that making purchasing more complicated and long winded may actually cost them sales they otherwise would of had. They definitely have to make changes to protect people from this but still keep the existing convienience of purchasing, the question is how long will it take to implement?
