Sorry, I'm being thick. What does it help guard against?
And should it have its own thread so people notice?

By the looks of it, you can set one (or more) consoles to sign in automatically, no wanting your password.

Which, of course, does absolutely **** all when they already have your password

At best, it auto kicks out anyone else using your account.

Not sure whether to start a new thread for this or not, but Steam's been hacked aswell. Makes for some grim reading.

          http://kotaku.com/5858473/

A message sent just now from Valve Corporation head Gabe Newell says credit card numbers and other personal information were inside a database compromised during a defacement attack on the Steam forums this Sunday.

Valve is advising all of its Steam customers to keep close eye on their credit card activity, as those numbers were inside a database the hackers penetrated during the larger attack, Newell wrote. The Steam Forums are currently closed. Steam itself is operating.
"We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating," Newell wrote. "We don't have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely."

The database exposed during the attack "contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information," Newell said in the statement.

Don't you say anything bad about steam, the internet will not allow it.

I wonder if they stole the source code for Half-Life 3 while they were in there...

They were nerds, that was the reason they were in there.

Get used to it. The next war won't be fought with bombs. It'll happen right here. No system is 100% secure, why? Because a human has to write it.

This is beginning to get somewhat ridiculous. Should the thread title be amended to flag that Steam may be vulnerable? While recognising that the crime here is being committed by the hackers and not the hacked, there is a bond of trust that must come with taking someones card details and that's being broken all over the place. Basically, right now between the bunch of them, most of us here are potential victims of fraud. It's a pain in the hole and the feeling that it's just a question of time now is really unsettling.

It's like knowing that a whole bunch of people lost copies of your housekeys.

                            Agreed!

I added a new thread, as I really think it deserved one. Changing title and merging my post also works...

I'm not so sure this is related to the EA thing. I've done some reading online, and it appears Live accounts are being hacked regularly - including accounts with different passwords to EA / Live only passwords. A friend had his account hacked a few days ago, after changing the password following my advice.

The gaming press is very quiet about this.

A recent spate of Xbox Live account hijackings involving unauthorised FIFA Ultimate Team pack purchases are not due to …

As soon as I noticed my gamertag was compromised, I looked to contact MS. As it was late on a Saturday, they were closed so I sent them an email. That was 5th Nov. Obviously I called them on the 6th.

Today I received an email asking to call them. Turns out, it was about my email on the 5th - wanting details so they could raise a case regarding the fraud. Of course I said one was already raised, but I find it incredible they waited 10 days to reply to an email.

Speaking to the guy on the phone, it's been confirmed this has happened to "thousands" of people over the last 8 weeks or so.

They officially started looking at my case on the 10th. Beyond that, nothing has happened
