Only if you don't get a PS4. But I see what you mean. DC >> PS4 etc.

But PS4 seems the right choice if it was to get exclusivity. We've been waiting long enough for it so it might as well be on the most up to date hardware in terms of power so that rules the Wii U out, and the Xbox brand doesn't sell in Japan so it would be a stupid move from SEGA's point of view to do it exclusively on Xbox.
I'd love to see Shenmue 3 released as a whole 3 part trilogy where you get the first 2 games remade in HD that just merge all together into one huge epic masterpiece

I don't believe a Shenmue game would cost as much to make now as it did back then, but it would probably still be too much to raise on Kickstarter alone.
Then again, if a space simulation can raise $40,000,000 I guess anything is possible!

Thing is, if they went Kickstarter and managed to raise the money that way, and I honestly think they probably could because there would be a percentage of people who would likely back it well beyond retail price, they'd be pitching it to the die-hard fans and so a) they probably could get away with keeping it very similar to the first two games, area size and all and b) by that stage they'd have the money so can make it work any way they want and those funds are safe.

I think a Shenmue game would probably cost more to make now. The level of detail required by 1080p is huge, plus you wouldn't be able to get away with a few very small areas like in 1999.
Like when Mother 3 was supposed to be released on Nintendo 64DD and they made it later on GBA instead:

Yep, good point. That would be really nice.
