After dabbling with Hal-Life last night I only had time to try out the BOR title Megaman: War of Power

It's much better made than the previous MM BOR title, uses loads of classic old tunes from the series and plays well. Fairly easy too has attacks have a large reach.

Next up is the Beats of Rage Collection

Another night, another blast of DC goodness

Beats of Rage Collection was a bust, once past the menu's none of the titles worked in VGA. So I moved on to Dynamite Cop, took maybe 25 minutes to complete and whilst the character models are rough it's pretty clean and bright SEGA Arcade style presentation is appealing and it's good fun.

Next up was the BOR title Kill Ryu 2. It's clearly unfinished and gets old pretty quick but there's potential to the set up

Goldeneye HL was next, it's not balanced enough and some of the geometry needs work but for what it is, it's an impressive recreation of the Facility level from the N64 game

The Hunger Half Life homebrew release opens okay, it plays decent and the areas are cool despite the overlong intro. However once the action kicks off it's a bit of a dull experience

Fighting Vipers 2 was another brief dally, mostly it just reminded me that it was a shame AM2 had never used the VF4 engine to put together a Fighting Vipers 3 that expanded on the armour concept

Last Hope: Pink Bullets should have rectified some annoyance with LH however it's barely indistinguishable.

Godzilla Generations: Maximum Impact, I was quite looking forward to playing. However it's genuinely awful

International Espionage, I like the concept, of controlling 3 spies who must pull off a series of coordinated heists, however the execution is poor. All you do is select from menu's with all action being automated.

Next up is Godzilla Generations, which after the sequel, I'm expecting to be terrible.

Is the Godzilla game the launch version? That looked amazing before it came out in magazines just from a graphics point of view. It even had the first VMU ever released, the green Godzilla one which i wanted for years and finally picked up new last year.

Nope, it's the sequel which I think had a fair bit changed. I'm gonna try out the launch one tonight

Are you making it your mission to play as many crap Dreamcast games as possible?

I've got a mountain of backlogged discs I never played through, all the good stuff was always top of the pile due to use so I've flipped the stack over and started from the bottom

I'm about 3/4's of the way done and then onto the well known stuff

It'll be Autumn of Dreamcast by the time you get to anything half decent!

It feels like that sometimes however, a peek into the remainder of the stack revealed several of the discs belong to D2

                  At last!

                    Was watching this earlier:

"Virtua Fighter 3 tb, which stands for 'team battle' but for the longest time(since it's written in cursive on the packaging) I thought it was 'th' and believed it to be a translation error.

I thought this game was Virtua Fighter Thirth - which, honestly, I wouldn't put past them - but for what it's worth, Virtua Fighter Thirth on the Dreamcast kicks ass."

                    Comment

I always used to say VF Thirth because it looks like it but it was always team battle!

                      You tool!

                        Right now i have :-

                        Daytona 2001
                        Bust a Move 4
                        Virtua Tennis 2
                        Zombie Revenge
                        Street Fighter III 3rd Strike
                        Soul Calibur
                        SF Alpha 3
                        18 Wheeler
                        Capcom Vs SNK.

I play my dreamcast more than anything. I know i'm 20-30 games short of what I feel I need, but I love the Dreamcast.

As well as the 16-bit era, the Dreamcast is up there for me as being legendary.

I'm enjoying my time but I'm getting the definite vibe that this is my swan song with the system. The majority of software has reached the point where it's too clunky and old now and the stuff that isn't like that is mostly available elsewhere. It's going out in style though

Tried Godzilla Generations, better than the sequel but still pants

                          Next up... Maken X

I play retro stuff for the nostalgia.

That's probably a duh statement but what I mean is I play stuff to transport me back to those particular times, which is why I'll rarely play something on an old console that I didn't play originally at the time - it just doesn't seem as interesting without the context.

For example, someone was telling me to play Thunderforce IV on MD because it's awesome. As I didn't play it back then, playing it now was just naff. There are a few exceptions to the rule, though, like Viewpoint on Neo Geo, but 99% of the time I need to have had some old experience with the game to enjoy it(although experience doesn't necessarily mean 'having played').

So with my DC, it's basically stuff I played when I first owned a DC around 2000 and have still been playing up to now or things I sold on and have rebought. I'm sure there are plenty of gems that I missed and would enjoy now but in terms of new experiences, I'd much rather play a current-gen game.

I'd say that's definitely true, it'll be something of a relief when I get to the big titles that I used to play all the time.

Nothing to do with nostalgia for me. I have played quite a lot of retro games that I never played back in the day and loved them plenty. Certainly games from the DC and PS1 eras come across clunky today but plenty of 16 bit era games have aged wonderfully.

I also fail to see how a great game like Thunderforce IV is naff today.
