A little detail I always loved about Capcom vs SNK were the little intros that set the scene before each stage. Well lovely.
I'm late to the party, but I'm going to set up the DC for a late summer/possible autumn of Dreamcast - I love the console to bits and fondly remember picking one up during its last summer. The Gamestation in Leeds couldn't get rid of their DC games quick enough and I remember snapping up a bunch of amazing games for peanuts. Good times.
Still yet to play Skies of Arcadia, VF3tb and a few other essentials, so I'll scour ebay later...

Thanks for the information, I guessed that AM2 were busy with Shenmue so had to pass the port on
but there was a difference in quality between the Arcade & Home Releases
I'm just gutted SEGA never ported the Lost World over , which is still for me the best Light Gun game ever made
Capcom vs SNK is the best fighter EVAR!

My favourite 2D fighter is Marvel vs Capcom 2. The roster in that game is practically never ending!
I haven't seen any mention of Dead or Alive 2 as a contender for best fighter. Fair enough, it certainly lacked the depth of Virtua Fighter 3tb, but I'd say it's got slightly more meat on it's bones in terms of combat compared to Soul Calibur. Stuff like the parrying system are really easy to pick up and straight forward, and the interactive levels were a first (?) - can't recall any other 3D fighter where you could knock your opponent down a stage and continue fighting.
I think the main thing DoA 2 desperately needed was some sort of quest mode as other than arcade and survival mode there's sod all.

Toothpaste trick time. ;p
As for my SC disc, not a single mark on it.

Had a blast on Virtua Fighter 3tb and Dead or Alive 2 earlier. Settled on using Akira as he seems to have the moveset most similar to that of Ryo of Shenmue. Can't get to the end though (assuming the final boss is the the reflective chap on the front cover) as my Dreamcast keeps resetting and throwing me to the launch screen - this is the only game I've encounter the problem on and it's a brand new disc. :/

The hardcore version came out in Japan on DC, one of the rare occassions when the japanese market got the game late.
Also, I'd forgotten how piss poor the final boss Tengu, is in DoA 2. He just looks like a jumbled mess and it's a bit of an anti-climax when you make it all the way to the end in arcade mode.

The DC version of DoA 2 did look nicer overall than the PS2. The last boss was a lot better on PS2 mind with the visual effects, I liked Tengu also. I just have the PS2 version because my machine was setup and it is cheaper.
Pity Tecmo didn't implement any anti aliasing on the PS2 version.
I really love the arenas in VF3.
