Dave's right. I watched a video explaining how ray tracing would help a scene and, while there were a few puddles, it also used other examples.

Ray tracing has another benefit - it takes pressure off the artists who may have needed to fake the lighting by painting in the shadows and highlights. It's similar to how game engines can simulate the physics for things like hair and super hero capes so they don't need to be animated by hand.

Putting aside time, lighting and physics based on calculations won't be negatively affected by an artist's skill level.

You can play Spiderman Miles Morales in fidelity mode for a great example of ray tracing.

I mean for all its faults I can't deny the game looks stunning at times. Chucking RT on the top will just be serious eye candy. Think of all those Neon lights!

Just on ray-tracing Digital Foundry did a really good video (they have done a few) on the impact of Nvidia's RTX on Metro: Exodus. Even watching on YouTube back then you could see this was going to be the 'next big thing'. Worth a watch if you want to see the impact of ray-tracing on games.

Not just that, but the way that both natural and artificial lights cut through the haze of the city. The fog isn't just volumetric, it's also illuminated. Genuine light pollution.

As much as it's copping flak right now I gotta say the main story has got me by the balls.

Can a game win game of the year and biggest disappointment at the same time?

This thread is about Cyberpunk... not Breath of the Wild!

It's only janky on last gen consoles. I've been playing on the Series X in Quality mode. Looks fantastic and locked at 30fps. There are some glitches but nothing that other games from UBI Soft or Bethesda haven't given us in worse quantities. It's a beautiful game through and through.

Been watching playthroughs on youtube of people playing it on pc and it still is janky the guy had 3 crashes before even 20 mins of the playthrough had passed, janky is not just for graphical bugs if a game flat out crashes out then it's janky. It's clearly unfinished but on powerful pc's with everything maxed out it does look amazing bugs aside.

I've put in a good 15-20 hours on Series X now over the past 3 days and not had a single crash. I've had one issue in the badlands where I got stuck in scenery but I was messing around and only had to restart my save.

I've gotten used to the quality mode now and it's 30fps locked and looks great. I do miss the 60fps mode but it's so much sharper on quality mode it's worth the cut.

When I changed over it was a little jarring and I didn't like it at all but now it's bedded in and I'm enjoying it.

All up it's a good game marred by a few technical issues in next gen. On last gen it's completely ruined by it's performance.

After 22 hours I finally got the T-pose on the motorcycle, which also removed my pants. It was like that Statham film 'Crank'. Hilarious.

I've memorised the patch of road that does it, too. So now I can do it over and over for maximum lolz.
