I'd be willing to bet that you won't finish it in under an hour the first time, at least if you crank up the difficulty and turn off the enemy tracking with the binoculars etc.

Besides, countless of actual full priced games can be completed in a couple of hours if you just speed-run them, hell, most games in the 90's were under two hours long. Are people knocking down shooter games because they can usually be "finished" in like 30 minutes? No and that's not the point with Ground Zeroes either. There are multiple ways of approach in a sandbox environment and actual replay value.

Edit: Oh look A WHOLE BUNCH of classic games can be finished REALLY quickly! Wow, what a rip-off my whole gaming life has been!

As long as the two hours or whatever it is are top-notch I'm happy enough. Like the other MGS titles it'll hopefully be enjoyable to play through more than once.

Eurogamer write-up makes it sound really fresh and intriguing. Will this level feature in the main game or is it standalone. If former, I'll wait. If latter, I might get when it comes down in price.

I'll pick up a copy from a hugely disappointed gamer on here at 11:30am on Friday ;-)

As hyped as I am for this it can wait because Second Son is out same day. The next gen begins properly this Friday.

As far as I know, it's a standalone prequel story for Phantom Pain and it will not be a part of it.

Game length is an interesting one, My whole playtime of the HD remake of the Stanley parable is probably around the 2 hour 30 mark yet it is one of the most interesting and inventive games I've played in ages, that cost ?12 to buy from steam on release would you say i've been ripped off because i don't feel like i have?

Likewise Dear Ester has about an hour and half playtime and costs about ?10, Gone Home cost 12 and i finished it in an evening. these are some of the most interesting PC games I've played in years, and i have no regrets on purchasing them, despite the really short playtime's.

For me Game quality and playtime are independent things one dose not directly affect the other, four hours to do all the missions in this sounds fine for my ?18 off the US psn.

Yes but Konami wanted 40 read it 4.0, 40 big ones, im not saying it won't be top notch, fun to play and better than most full priced games ( if you believe some forum members ). Yes but would you pay RRP Lebowski of 29.99 for next gen and 19.99, that is the question?

I am paying RRP for the PS3 edition. It's easily worth it to me. I play games for enjoyment not to fill endless amounts of time. By the metric most gamers online seem to use, the Lord of the Rings extended editions are the best films ever because they're about 18 hours long.

I think some people lose sight of the fact that games aren't that expensive. People are always reminiscing on here about dropping ?600 in the mid 90s to play VF2. That's like ?900 today. Games cost more to make than ever and still only top out at about ?40, ?50 for PS4/Bone. Going to a restaurant and/or to a pub a couple of times a week destroys that amount of money with the greatest of ease.

I think games are really good value. Even if they're ?20 and only 2 hours long. The cinema is now ?15 plus about ?8 for popcorn and a drink, and you only get to watch the film once.

Plus games consoles are great value too. You buy it for like 400 notes and then you use it most days for the next 8 years lol.

                    Amen to that.

In the case of Ground Zeroes and what it's set out to do, I'd rather have a few hours of content that I can rinse and fully absorb, over a more sprawling game that could dilute the impact of Phantom Pain when it arrives. It sounds an awful lot like the MGS2 demo, but with the added bonus of it being exclusive content.

I'm uh, waiting til I can afford a PS4 though...

Honestly, I totally understand the critisism of this game and the perception of it being a mere 'demo'. Konami didn't really do a very good job of convincing people that it's not.

But at the same time, it is clearly a game that people want, and released at the right time. I'll reserve judgement until I actually play the game on Thursday - if it takes less time for me to complete the game than it does for me to go and pick it up, then I'll be right there complaining. If I'm still playing it after 2 evenings, then it has lasted me longer than most single player modes of this generation (with such a heavy emphasis on multiplayer, us single player gamers have been forgotten).

Jesus, was thinking last night of starting a speed run thread for completion times on here.

Another interesting review here, you can just read the last paragraph really to be honest.

Interesting. I hold no stock in anything Eurogamer have to say so I wonder what the general consensus will be. I'll reserve judging it as a demo until I play it myself though.

It's curious that Eurogamer post a review giving the game a 9/10 saying that the length of the game is a non-issue, but that didn't stop them creating a click-bait 'watch us complete it in 10 minutes' article.

Probably just a way to generate more site traffic. Bizarre for them to post both articles a few hours apart yes.
Has anyone had a physical copy dispatched yet?
