This is all an elaborate ruse and the game will actually be highly linear, called something completely different, and omit guns entirely. And 10 minutes in the real Snake voiced by David Hayter kills the fake Snake you're playing as (played by Kiefer Sutherland).

"Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes - The Splinter Cell Effect
Slow-mo executions, regenerating health, and more changes coming.
Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes seems, above all else, safe, despite its subtle but significant changes. The prologue to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which eases players to the main game’s open-world elements, introduces numerous new elements to the franchise, none of which stand out as exceptionally interesting on their own. In unison, one after the other, and in the context of the next Big Boss story, these changes shake up the norm, disrupting expectations with more modern systems. The stealth, action, interrogation, infiltration, and navigation mechanics feel familiar in ways that feel equal parts right and wrong.
When I left the debut gameplay demo of Ground Zeroes, one thought looped in my mind: This is an exceptional Splinter Cell sequel.
Before a guard enters an alert state, you’ll get a button prompt indicating you’re busted. Hold the left trigger, and you’ll briefly freeze time, giving you the opportunity to pump a couple quiet bullets into an alarmed enemy’s eyeballs."
From a recent preview.... sounds utter ****e. My decision to not buy it based on no David Hayter seems to be paying off dividends

It has been announced for PS4 and XB1 FSW.
By the time it comes out it'll probably be one of the last (if not THE last) big games released on PS3.
Even though the previews worry me, I've got faith in Kojima and his team. I've loved every MGS, even the much maligned Sons of the Patriots. He badly needs a good editor but his storylines are amazingly prescient.

The Bordersdown cynicism hive mind is still as depressing as always.
Slo mo just before you get spotted will probably alleviate the frustrating insta-spotting and trial and error. I replayed MGS2 recently and you get spotted and retry so much that it is just anger inducing.
Regenerating health may be just for demo purposes. It may also be a properly balanced system made by a master game designer. Kojima has proved himself over and over and maybe he's earned some trust? Or maybe we just jump on him as soon as we get a chance because we're angry, petulant children?
And whoever said it, not all Splinter Cells are not "wank". 1 and 3 are brilliantly difficult, challenging games and three in particular has some genius level design.

Lol alright Chopemon calm down. I'm a massive Kojima fan as it happens, and the core mechanics of MGS are very near and dear to my heart.
And yeah, Splinter Cell 1 and Chaos Theory were good, but the series has gone completely off the rails since then and become a silly run and gun game (which pays mere lip service to stealth).
Nor am I part of some 'hive mind' (which you're above I assume, descending to us as a game design expert?). I've just got my own opinions.
Originally posted by FSWNot played Sons of the Patriots. What system did that come out on? /pedant.
It was PSX exclusive. You had to download it from a Japanese satellite television service. You probably haven't heard of it.

I'm not "descending" to you, I am trying to stave off all of the awful cynicism and bitterness that engulfs so much of this forum. Everyone is so keen to jump on something without having played it and in this case, barely seeing anything of it. I'm all for informed discussion about why something may be bad but I hate the reactionary cynicism and snark that occurs immediately. Bordersdown should be better than this.
