This looks immense. I guess we wont see next consoles until 2014, so this would have plenty of time to settle nicely on current hardware. As for the story! ah man, i adore the world of metal gear, such a unique, rich universe! Excited.

I'm pretty sure kojima has mentioned that they have been working on this for a couple of years, which makes sense seeing as mgs4 came out in 2008 and peace walker was out in 2010.
Sony have confirmed its coming out on PS3 here. I reckon either next summer (like the recent games) or Autumn.

Joystiq breakdown of the story elements of the trailer. Very spoilery if you haven't completed Peace Walker.

Since this follows on directly from Peace Walker I can see a lot of people grabbing the HD game to catch up.

Apparently at the Japanese event Kojima said we wouldn't be waiting long for this.

Here's some stuff out of the panel from Joystiq:

So what else is new about Ground Zeroes? It's a "prologue" to Metal Gear Solid 5, says Hideo Kojima. The open world of Ground Zeroes is literally the entire world ? a helicopter can be called to help during missions or ferry Snake in and out of mission levels. Moreover, you can customize the music that the helicopter plays when it arrives to help you ("Flight of the Valkyries" played during the demo we were shown today ? Kojima says the louder the song is, the more of a chance of you getting caught, so maybe Slayer wouldn't be the best choice).

Kojima reiterates that Ground Zeroes is a current-gen game, though Fox Engine is scalable for next-gen as well. He wouldn't give specifics on the name, but calls the game "a beginning" rather than an end for the series.
This is interesting, I assume "a beginning" could hint that it could tie into the first MGS and have a new swing on that. You may even have the environments all re-done from the PSX game, with new angles on the story and such.

The original MGS is fine as it is, but I'd love it if they redid the first 2 Metal Gear games, or at least have another game set in that era. That or a WW2 game. This should be great though.

That said, I wish you didn't have to own so many different systems to play all the games. I still haven't played Portable Ops or Peace Walker as I don't have a PSP, and I don't want to play PW without having played PO...

I haven't played through PO as I found it to be uncontrollable so I jumped into Peace Walker without knowing what came before other than 3 and you get along fine in it. They set it all up assuming you haven't played PO. PW is great in the HD collection.

I don't think PO really has a story or if it's really considered 'Canon'

Snake appears to have a lovely modern gaming rubber face. I love that everything looks plastic and rubbery nowadays.

                            Amazing lighting though.

Prob already been said but some of the wet rain effects in that video blew me away. Loved the bit where it says a Hideo Kojima game and the music kicks in.

I found Portable Ops very weird and still own it played a bit. Just mini missions really as far as I am aware. Had lots of trouble makin it save too. I'm currently I short way into Peace Walker with HD collection Art is very different in it.

i dare to say pretty underwhelming stuff IF the footage is not based on PS3 or 360 hardware. the rain isn't done very convincing i think - looks all a bit too much like in the early normal mapping days.

content-wise i am not sure what to make of it either... so i guess it's a bit too early for a hallelujah.
