Interestingly there is still no price for the pad on its own as Nintendo wont issue one.Does this mean that the WiiU pad will only ever be used by one player? If so for multiplayer and co-op games the other players haev to use Wii Controllers. So in effect, making the WiiU for multiplayer and co-op a HD Wii!
Lets not forget the 3DS fiasco on pricing......

?250 for a brand new system isn't bad. There are masses of R&D costs to recoup with a new system - for comparison, Amazon have the 500GB superslim PS3 for ?210 still. Now that I consider overpriced, since Sony have had it on the market for the past 6 years and must have recouped their costs many times over by this point.
For another comparison, the 360 with Kinect and Dance Central is ?250. Yeah you get a game thrown in, but the pricing is basically on par with the Wii U. And again, the 360 has been on the market for donkey's years by this point.
Personally I like how the WiiU uses wiimotes for multiplayer. It means that right out of the box I can play 5 player games(rather than the usual ?35+ cost of each additional pad at launch).

Something to be said for being able to use the older controllers. I used older ps2 sticks and steering wheel on my PS3 originally. Very handy. No use if you never owned the previous system of course.
R&D costs on the WiiU can't be that expensive can they? 4 year old GPU, a PowerPC CPU and a resistive screen along with motion controls that they invented 6 or 7 years ago. I don't see much R&D in there. Sony's 12GB PS3 (which is what we should be comparing the WiiU to price wise) is ?146 on amazon. The PS3 still includes a blu-ray player, ethernet port and they have to pay licensing costs for DVD, Blu-Ray, Dolby, and DTS which Nintendo have avoided by not including those features. I agree with Jim on the pricing but I also understand that all consoles are expensive at launch so this wasn't a surprise and is the price you pay as an early adopter. You either deal with it or wait.Last edited by Brad; 13-12-2012, 10:52.

There this whole concept of "supply and demand" for people that don't know. The more something is wanted, the more it's value will be even if the product itself isn't really valuable, see iPhone. Why would Nintendo sell the Wii U for pocket change when they can sell all the units they can produce with the price they want? It's a capitalistic society we live in.

Yeah but to be fair pads are always excessively expensive for what they are, it's an easy money spinner. Like memory cards used to be, I bet they're all gutted they have to issue storage as standard these days.
Although I say that but look at the Vita lol. Sony have always been the overpriced memory card's number one fan.
