Quite a few good scores now so I can see me picking this up, looks great fun.

Here lies the problem with the wii u version of Lego city

The biggest Wii U exclusive of the year so far sees Lego striking out for itself, with no movie tie-ins but instead a giant GTA style open world.

Well according to that review the cons are:
Low tech visuals, atrocious load times, and poor use of the GamePad – with no off-TV option. Simplistic combat and occasionally bland art design. No multiplayer.
            So lets see ...

No multiplayer, oh well no loss
Low tech visuals - its Lego (and a launch game)
bland art design - its Lego

Gamepad - No gamepad play, disappointing yes, but hardly a deal breaker.

atrocious load times - Which has already been noted in most of the reviews, guess how much it annoys will depend on the person, something which could be fixed later on though ...

Hardly anything there that's a deal breaker.

It does add up to being rather disappointing though, for a game that's been billed as the big one to carry Wii U gamers through to the summer.

If this had been on Xbox or PS3 it wouldn't have received nearly as much attention as it has. I wouldn't call it a launch game either, that's just buying into the 'launch window' marketing speak. Launch games are the ones that come out on the same day as the system!

You mean like how in their whole 20 year history they've only given 14 "Perfect Scores" and 3 of them are the Super Mario Galaxy games and Skyward Sword?

I think the main problem with a GTA game for kids is that GTA IV (maybe even GTA V expectations) will be the yardstick they're measured against which is probably fair since judging by Xbox Live kids play those anyway. The difference in scores on this is probably more to do with some reviewers seeing it as a poor GTA-clone while others see it as an improved formula for the Lego franchise.

I don't know what you're all moaning for. NFS: Most Wanted is out on Tuesday. It's by far the most superior version available.
                  Kept you waiting, huh?

I'd have thought the most superior version of NFS: Most Wanted was on PS3 and called Ridge Racer 7?

Although there has been an amount of anticipation for this title I would say its a little unfair to say it was being billed as 'the big one' . I don't think anyone has been doing that.

I think if it had been out on the other systems it would have had far more attention, Lego games are pretty big these days. Anything out in the first 6 months of a systems life is a launch window game. So its technically not going to be as impressive as games further down the line.

Also this is the first open world Lego game, so we can cut the guys a little slack.

Plus a common misconception with EDGE, mainly due to most sites giving average games 7 scores, is a 5 in edge just means its average, not ****, not brilliant, just average. Im sure there will still be plenty of people that will enjoy it.

                          Edge's Nintendo 10s are actually;

                          Super Mario 64
                          Zelda: Ocarina of Time
                          Mario Galaxy
                          Mario Galaxy 2
                          Zelda: Skyward Sword

If there is one thing EDGE magazine should know its average. That magazine has been a 5/10 to read for years now. Its passable for a train journey but that's about it nowadays.

They keep saying they should have given Goldeneye a 10 as well. Which is bollocks because they had a second chance with Perfect Dark and they only gave that a 9. Twats.
