Just jump in. The 3DS is fine as it is, I'd actually go for the original as the games probably look better on the smaller screen and I dislike the idea of bigger size handhelds. I don't think there's going to be as big a difference as it was with DS -> DS Lite even if they announce some new model.

I thought original 3ds had shorter battery life and a smaller viewing angle for the 3d effect than the XL model, or am I talking poop?

Hmm... not sure about the battery life. I've had both and they seem about the same so there's not much in it but it's possible the XL lasts longer. But the viewing angle is no better on the XL.

There's really very little between them. XL is much bigger and the size of the screen impresses but that's balanced with the bigger pixels due to the low resolution. They're both good.

I would point out that regular DS games merely look 'good enough' on the original 3DS because of the scaling. Makes it a bit of a pain in the arse for me to read the Japanese text. I have wondered if the XL is a better option if you play regular DS games also.

Oh nice price too. I assume you can fit more than 4 games in the pouch behind? The bit the picture shows the VR cards in?

You can fit 6 games in the pockets if you squeeze to into ech one, and then you can put the rest in the pouch behind. Plenty of room.

Quick question... if playing something basic like a GameBoy game from the VC, would the 3DS battery last longer? Does it depend on what you play at all?

Good question which I'd like the answer to,in theory it's not processing a 3D image so it should provide less power consumption???

Not strictly true - if you play an original Gameboy game on the 3DS/3DS XL at the original resolution, the old-school Gameboy border has something of a 3D effect on it (admittedly not much, though).

You guys prolly already know but seems the european version of shin megami tensei devil survivor overclocked was recently confirmed for april 5 but has been moved forward to 29th march. Finally a date for europe lol.
