Cheers for the info great to hear. I was in Japan last week and so tempted with a Japanese model plus Nintendo may unlock regions of Japanese unit in the future. But have so many PAL physical games now and as the digital stuff is tied to the unit did not wanna have to risk a Japanese one getting stolen so with all Digital stuff on it so sadly until Nintendo make accents like Sony and Ms, Digital is a no go, plus want to still play the stuff I had.

Maybe I should have bought a Japanese unit to begin with would have been good Japanese practice too.

Rendering 3D images is expensive since you are rendering the image more than once. Turning the 3D off will give you a performance boost. Some games will have things like AA that will get turned on when they have the performance boost of not rendering the 3D. That will need to be done game by game and budgets and schedules will allow/disallow it.

Most don't seem to use it though. Zelda OoT is one of the only good examples of AA being applied in 2D and that was way back at the start of the 3DS. Got to wonder how much it takes by way of resources to apply AA - I honestly don't know. Does it need to be coded individually every game?

Put the Boo one on today to take some pics as there are not many pics out there of the faceplates actually on the console, the weird glow is from my blacklight so i could get them to glow for the camera.

thinking about taking the plunge on a new 3DS, but original or XL?

I'm thinking original for the faceplates etc and the size seems negligible this time??

The jump from XL to regular isn't that bad as the screen size was mde a bit bigger on the regular than it was on the original launch one. But ir depends on the person, i have an original XL and i prefer the regular one to be honest it feels less bulky plus i love having faceplates..

I like the extra battery and screen size of the XL. The auto-adjusting 3D and faceplates of the New3DS are why I bought that one to replace my old original Japanese 3DS. Okay, it was the faceplates.

Where abouts is the best place to order these faceplates then??

                      Anyone making custom ones???

Got my Japanese console and faceplates from Nippon Yasan. Better prices than Play-Asia.

I'm tempted to go for an AUS model now, but I was thinking of getting a WiiU this Christmas for us, and can't stretch to both. Hmmm...

Finally FINALLY! got the last pink piece for the captain toad streetpass puzzle now all of my puzzles are complete. Pretty amazed i'm only one region in Canada away from completion of that map and also 2 states for America to be fully complete, shame Japan is onlt about 30% completed.

My Australian New Nintendo 3DS just arrived from Play Asia, have to say so much bigger than the older one as well as much more stylish. The Smash Brothers Face plate I have really personalized it too think the face plates are a great idea. Machine seems to have many more functions than the original not sure if this is from the recent update but can restrict 3D for kids and only let certain games work dependent on certificate.

The most apparent impressive thing is the 3D stability tracking which is 110% improved over the original. Camera is much improved plus the screen sharpness. The location of the stylus is much better although the he stuylus itself is not as sturdy looking.

Machine now flush so no over hangs like the original. Seems solved all the problems of the original machine not having two analogue sticks, although the new c stick type nub is not completely perfect, works well for Resident Evil revalations as I have tried it. Also zR and zL shoulder buttons will help for some games that need it. Glad Nintendo did us PAL people a favour bringing this to Australia.

Looking forward to Tranferring all the stuff as Importaku and others said e-shop and region seems fine. Ridiculous Nintendo has no date for these in the U.S and Europe yet. Especially as they could have made even more money on these Black Friday or Christmas seems a bit mind boggling they did not try a release.
