GOTY 2012, What's yours?

It has been a poor year for gaming for me really. I have enjoyed:

- PS Vita "Uncharted"
- PC "Mass Effect 3"
- PC " FarCry 3"
- 3DS "Kid Icarus: Uprising"

Far Cry 3 is looking to be my GOTY.

Disappointments

1. CoD: Black Ops Declassified

4. The Vita's apparent doom despite its brilliant potential.

Looking Forward to in 2013

1. A yet to be announced Wii U game (3D Mario or the rumoured Yoshi's Island)
2. GTA 5
3. Soul Sacrifice
4. Owning a console other than the Vita

1. noobish's attitude.
2. noobish's sudden 180 on the Wii, considering his attitude on "new" games.
3. noobish not suddenly deciding the 3DS is actually good (possibly 2013...?)

So, other than playing Armored Core V for about two hours with Katsu before sending it back to LoveFilm because nobody else on here has ever played it again, ever, the only game I've played that was released this year is:

Minecraft 360!

I'm not anti-new games, but I've had my precious little gaming time filled with older games from the backlog: Fallout NV; EDF 2017; Saints Row 2; Batman AA; some Guitar Hero games after seeing Metallica and Megadeth at the Download Festival; the Lost Planet games and a few others.

To be honest, though, other than EDF 2025, I doubt I'll play any games released in 2013 as I'll still be playing catch-up and adding some of the games listed in here by others!

I'd rather play one game for 30 hours, than 30 games for one hour each.

It all depends if Charles finally honours his part of the deal and fixes the Blueroom compo for me...

I've barely completed any games this year, off the top of my head, the only 2 were Max Payne 3 and Daytona USA. I lost interest in Mass Effect 3, Kid Icarus was completely overrated and that was that...

But titles that have grabbed me were all HD re-releases or downloadable titles. Sega's retro output has been amazing, a complete turnaround from this time last year and much credit for them putting in the effort.

At the moment my list would probably be:

3. Pinball Arcade (iOS)

Special mention must go to Super Mario 3D Land as it is one of the best games I have ever played, possibly better than the mighty Super Mario 64. But that was released last year and I only brought a 3DS this year! Playing that was like stepping into the future (Just like Mario 64 was) but also stepping into the past and revisiting my childhood. 2012 was one of the best simply for that title alone.

Mine are:
Compromised - fantastic implementation of twin sticks for a decent shooter. Totally ignored by everyone, but... add the demo to your queue RIGHT NOW.
Battlefield 3 MP with the expansion packs - totally sucked me in. Never gets boring.
Halo 4 - loved the single player on Legendary. Haven't put much time in MP yet due to BF3, but it looks to be pretty fun.
Gateways! - brain bender in the style of Portal but more complex, with great progression.
Trials Evolution - Another round of digital crack

Must mention Gunlord on the DC - ok, so it's not as good as Turrican, and the controls are bit dodgy but it's still well worth playing.

1. Battlefield 3 PC - (Mainly becuase I haven't been able to play the PC version online in over 3 months as EA don't seem to be able to sort out the issue with my account)

2. No reason to buy a Vita

I've not played a huge amount this year but my standouts are;

1. The Pinball Arcade (iOS)
2. Musihimesama HD (X360)
3. Gridrunner (iOS)
4. NSMBU (WiiU)

I've really made a connection with the ipad this year. The games mentioned above along with the likes of Metal Slug 3 and Plants V Zombies have made it a consistent pleasure.

Next year I'm looking forward to GTAV, Pikmin 3, Colonial Marines and hopefully some big hitters released for the NeoGeo X (still tempted by one ).

Just realised that Star Wars: The Old Republic was released on something like the 20th of December last year, so it's basically this year right? If that counts, my list is changed to:

Far cry 3 - I hate sandbox games, but this is something else. Needs a new console now though, makes the 360 creak like the lookout radio towers!
Pinball arcade - fantastic recreation of real classic machines from a small company. Yes, there's more than a few issues, but the core game is superb.
Battlefield 3- no other game does guns like dice do!
All xbox versions.

There's been so much in the way of sequels this year that GOTY has been very hard to pick out. Sure many of these sequels have been worthwhile playing, but a GOTY to me has to be something special, and I'm not sure we've seen that much in the way of special in 2012.

I enjoyed Hitman, Borderlands 2, Forza Horizon, ME3 (ending aside), but I think we've had far more from the XBLA / PSN side of things than we've had from the triple A. Mark of the Ninja, Journey, Trials Evolution, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Fez.

But I think from innovation and something a little different ...
