Yeah the original was such a niche title being a 1st party published Sony game that was critically acclaimed by all news outlets.

What about ICO and SotC? Both of those are 1st party published games from Sony, were critically acclaimed by all news outlets, yet were still niche games? (Particularly ICO).

agree that we would all like to see Dark Souls attain as great a presence as The
Elder Scrolls. How it gets there is a worthy matter for debate, but it’s
certainly a noble task.

While I'd be pleased as punch if it's current gen, I'm hoping they take the time to give it the care it deserves. The new directors have got some big boots to fill.

A more direct approach for the game mechanics could work. But subtlety works well for Dark Souls lore, I'd hate to see that go.


And **** Elder Scrolls. If reaching the same accolade means Souls ends up anything like that it can go to hell From need to stick to their own path. I've bought 3 copies of Dark Souls and have about 8 characters on the go. The last Scrolls while beautiful, bored me before finishing it the once.

Hopefully more experience developing will mean that it's not quite as technically ropey as the last one.

I know it's controversial but I would like them to go a little further and make it a little more forgiving again.

Yeah it could definitely do with a good tidy up. The trudge it took my tank-build to get from Anor Londo apartments bonfire to the Orm and Cheap bossfight (2 minute 24 seconds, I timed my average in exasperation over a couple of dozen attempts), was neither enjoyable nor educational. Especially as enemies en route were no longer a challenge. The journey back to the Four Kings fight was even worse. Poor checkpointing for false longevity, really.

Oh yes! art work in the trailer was beautifully haunting as usual. They really have a handle on the theme fear and beauty. I can't wait! Need to play the DLC first though, although I hear you have to play through the game again to access it.
