Especially as enemies en route were no longer a challenge. The journey back to the Four Kings fight was even worse. Poor checkpointing for false longevity, really.
actually you can get from bonfire to boss in both occasions you mention in about 30 seconds a piece

Yeah, I think the checkpoints are plenty generous. I don't want to feel like I'm hitting retry and restarting the boss fight every time I die in one. That's part of what makes the boss fights so cool in DS, the trek to getting there makes them so much more exciting and tense.

Precisely my point. It's just odd to see it go from a fan-compiled wiki being the primary source of information for an import-only game to having the third game in the series announced at such a glitzy affair.

@mugetsu: not in solid stone armour you can't! Lol. And I refuse to sprint through butt naked, it's undignified.

edit: where's this 30 second shortcut to 4 Kings, btw? I guess it must sidestep the lifts via firelink and/or darkroot basin, which take a fair while. Wish I'd known.

If you think the check points in dark souls were bad, what about demons souls? Sometimes it meant you virtually had to do an entire level again to reach a boss. The lack of a level based structured really helped dark souls in that respect it was far quicker to get back to bosses

Just cant wait for this. Demon Souls and Dark Souls are two of my fave games from the last few years. Would be even better if there is a PS4/Xbox 720 version, also means those with a decent PC will then be able to crank it up another notch or two.

A stable frame rate would be lovely this time!

Hopefully from software will make proper textures time too and not just large grey expanses of slightly shiny grey stone.

Given how quickly this has come about I'd be suprised if its not mostly the same as the previous game. All FROM needs to do is make sure fans are pleased with an entry that meets the set standards rather than push too much into making an entry that will likely not sell as well as its predecessor. With DS its more about fan retention and with a new gen looming and a relatively small release window they just need to make sure the game world is up to scratch. Plus side is there's nothing to suggest it won't be.

Do it! You know you want to. Nothing quite says undignified like being killed by an invader while you're butt naked running to a boss!

Exactly. They're only a small team and given how quickly they've gone to work on it I can imagine it will be running the same as Dark Souls performance wise and it will be more of a part 1.5 than part 2.

You always have to do the whole level in Demon's Souls. There are no checkpoints. Some levels have shortcuts you can unlock though.

Demon's is the better game i think. The peer based network of dark Souls makes it feel more solo i think. Was playing demon's today and there are still ghosts of dozens of players everywhere, messages with ratings over a hundred.

Possibly one of the only franchises where players don't want the world to change that much? Admittedly, the gameplay and world presented is awesome by several degrees so I'm in the same camp here.

Fingers crossed this is a sign that future iterations will appear on next-gen machines also.
