Indeed. Because we all realised that the day it came out.

I'm keen for some survival horror...is Blood Curse a decent Siren entry? It's a remake of the first game right?

It is decent. It's a re-imagining of the first game with the improvements from the second game. Some things are completely changed because of the inclusion of western characters and changes to the plot and structure. It's different enough so that it sits alongside the original game rather than being a direct replacement for it.

My friend who is a massive Siren fan doesn't like it much because it 'feels too much like a bad American remake of a Japanese film', probably due the to the characters. I think it's decent though, and there probably aren't many better options on the PS3.

I never played dead space 1, mainly because i scare pretty easily. Aliens vs Predator marine campaigns spring to mind, sod that for a laugh.

But i did play dead space 2, and i never really felt scared or that threatened. This was mainly because, issac was so smooth to control, i always felt i had complete control over the character and weapon, in a way, the games great engine/design worked against the 'scary' atmosphere, at least in my case.
I think you have to go back to some old styles like resident evils no moving while aiming, to add threat to the player character. As games and technology progress, and realism of movement and gun play expands, i think its going to be hard to make a game feel scary and dangerous without innately limiting something, which of course a large percentage of players will dislike - its got to be done 'right' etc.
I guess its up to developers to come up with some great new ideas, perhaps the main character could be suffering some affliction, that might flare up without warning, hampering your control or responses.....ah that would suck i dunno.

**** 'em. If you want survival horror it has to be just that, 'survival' with some 'horror' thrown in.

Where is the survival where you can get stocked up to the teeth with guns, ammo and a plethora of acrobatics?

Just watch, this new Aliens game will be like that. You will be able to go around tearing up the place instead of it being the player that should be getting tore up, or at least running away and having to set up shop someplace else because you keep getting overrun.

Something definitely becomes lost when they introduce the ability to run and shoot at the same time. I understand why developers do it - one of the most common complaints about the Resident Evil games from the action crowd are the tank controls and the inability to run and shoot at the same time. I think both of these 'issues' are actually to the benefit of most survival horror games as they ensure that people can't rely on being able to shoot their way out of a problem, and might not even be able to easily run away from it.

As far as survival horror games go, even the likes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 were always relatively action-orientated. Yet, you still feared walking through doors or what was around the next corner. Why? Because you had no idea how close the enemy would be, no guarantee that you could just leg it, and nowhere near enough ammo to be able to shoot your way out of every such situation.

Siren: Blood Curse is probably the best one I've played in years. Played it quite a while ago but it was awesome. Really hope Sony go back to that but it probably sold poorly

^I bought it a few months back on PSN, it's very reasonably priced at ?10.99. Might have to give it a go after Dead Space 2, only trouble is I've got the first two but have a 2-yr old save on the first, will I miss anything by jumping straight to Blood Curse, cos all I hear is good stuff about it and I need to clear some giggage, my 320gb is stuffed!!!

Its gone in the same direction as the film industry, done to death in some capacity or another and we are difficult to scare..... Not to mention that the horror genre is aimed at a niche market, action, survival partly horror but will never truly scare you like previous horror games have.... This game is far more consumer friendly and games developers are more than happy to piss off the die hard horror fans who have stuck by them for many many years in the process in return for a boost in marketing figures, that's business unfortunately..... Dark Souls 2 cannot come along quick enough for me, true atmospheric horror rpg that is equally disturbing in its on right as it is difficult...... We need to go back to Project Zero, Silent Hill 2 and take a giant leaf from Deadly Premonition when creating true survival horror games.
