I'm quite near Loughborough - anywhere I can get cheap Super Famicom games around here?
    Nowhere I know of.

There used to be the most awesome import store in Loughborough called KC's Console Magic (Superfamifreak will be sick of me going on about this). It was the world's greatest import store. I used to get all my Japanese Megadrive and Super Famicom stuff from there, but they closed down ages ago. Now Loughborough is served by the usual suspects (Game, Blockbusters, Woolies, Smiths, etc) and one indie called Voodoo Consoles, who are a bit crap to be honest.

The internet has pretty much killed off retro/import stores these days.

Again, not wanting to move into stalker territory here, but where abouts is it you live? There's a pint waiting for you any time you're near Loughborough. It might be warm by the time you get here, though.

A couple questions for you Wil...

      1) In N64 mag who was it who decided Game Boy games should be rated out of 5?

and 2) How was it that you bagged the trip to review Ocarina of Time - that must've been immense.

Oh, and I'm really liking dinkybox, well done!

I can't honestly remember about the Game Boy supplement. It was probably James or Tim but I don't think it had a lot of thought put into it. Most things like this on games mags aren't as thought out as you might think. I see NGC have ressurected it again this month.

The trip to Germany for OOT was a bit of a reward for working hard on the mag (as was the trip to Spaceworld in 99). It was only a couple of days but was quite a laugh being held in a 'living museum' that Miyamoto apparently took some village building designs from for the game (it was quite near Nintendo of Europe). There were loads of other journos from Europe (but strangely only ONM and Bizarre (!) from the UK) and they only took a couple of screenshots (we had a day to play it and take shots) and they were amazed when I managed to end up with 5 Zip discs worth of pics!

Good fun and the meal with the NOE guys in a traditional German inn was great! They really do have big tankards with bears carved on the side!

Thanks for the kind words about dinkybox.

        Wil

I used to go to Advanced Console Entertainment in London in my AnimeUK days. They're in Carnaby Street now (and a pale shadow of their former self) but then (and this is around 1990) they were in a couple of rooms in a normal office block just up the road from where I worked in Mortimer St. Those were the daft days when I'd pay ?70 for Super R-Type and Actraiser but it was more exciting then (sorry, should this be in the retro section?).

I am quite near Loughborough and I may well take you up on a coffee one Saturday (never get home early enough now to go out in the evening!)

Those e-mails are strangely sad and desperate. Oh. Dear.

Dinkybox is great (mentioned that over at rllmuk, but it can't hurt to say it again ).

Sure, let me know when you're next in the area. I promise not to turn into a rabid fanboy, honest.

was looking for a games shop today up in town and went to Carnaby St to find said games shop but couldn't find it. It's hidden away somewhere, isn't it?
