Everyone pretty much calls it tales of keroro, the fighting system is very mich from the tales series. The story constantly breaks the 4th wall as it makes fun of the traditional rules of old rpgs. Thankfully furigana make an apperance over the kanji so that certainly helps out hehe.

After playing the garbage that was 13 i'll never touch another again would gladly take a home console version of a new keroro rpg game though, god it would be amazing if they did it.

Sweet. Sounds like the perfect game to play at this time of year.

Anyway, the OP asked for a "proper RPG like old-school Final Fantasy" which Valkyria Chronicles clearly isn't.
Resonace of Fate basically just has an area where there are shops and stuff and then you go to a blockbusters style grid which you fill in by being magically transported to an arena and killing enemies. I consider it an RPG, but by the sounds of it you wouldn't.

And yeah he asked for games like final Fantasy, but there are very few of those about now, even final fantasy isn't like final fantasy anymore. So I just tried to give him a wider selection.

            It's one of the best.

As for Blue Dragon, I thought it was crapwankular.

Resonance of Fate is probably my favourate RPG I've played on 360. It has a lot of strategy elements in it and the combat is really rewarding but hard to get into. I wonder how easy it is to get a hold of these days because no one seemed to play it.

Edit: Quite easily apparently, found a few for a tenner on ebay.

Good to know. Noticed they fetch ?40 - ?50 on fleabay, but I'll pay that for one of the best.

I think quite a few people bought it, but then they sold it pretty sharpish as its a hard game to get into. Been a while since I played it myself, but wasn't it about 5 hours before the game showed you a tutorial or something daft? I think most people were just confused with the game and got rid of it.

Comparing it to what I used to pay for games back in 1999-2001, I'd value it at around 60-70 quid.

I'd concur that Xenoblade is well worth ?50. Best RPG I've played this generation.

I don't see how everyone keeps comparing it to MMOs. I've never played an MMO, but it's structured pretty much with all the clever ideas I'd expect from a good standard RPG. Warp magic from the start, a cracking fast pace, and after completing side-quests you often don't even need to return to the quest giver. You get the reward automatically.

Xenoblade is a long RPG, but it's built like one for busy people. It's free from a lot of the filler other examples in the genre have. In fact, Xenoblade is SO good, that I can barely stomach playing Ni no Kuni right now. I keep thinking: man, I wish this was more like Xenoblade.

Yeah the problem in Ni no Kuni is the incessant and useless running around with errands. The only fun ones are the hunts, that's about it.

Most MMO's feature a lot of single player content that is structured like regular RPG's. So really any RPG is comparable to them. On top of that though Xenoblade also features many mmo style side missions and the combat is similar to MMORPG's in a lot of ways. It's somthing that Final Fantasy 12 did, and a lot of JRPG's since then have done the same.

Off topic(-ish): any rumours on that 'unannounced' project Monolithsoft are meant to be doing for 3DS?

Actually contradicting my post about ignoring the 360, Nier is a brilliant RPG imo. It is not turned based, more real time fighting but it is more RPG then not. It is quirky, off key and IMO original. It has it's fair few fetch quests but the music is so amazing it numbs the pain, plus I found the fighting quite re-freshing. Quite a deep story too.

I thought it deserved a mention.
