    How can it be boring?

J0e, do you ever post without hinting at your generous wealth?

I'm looking forward to playing Anarchy Reins and MGS Rising personally. Hard games that you can master appeal to me greatly!

Well no. I just post. I may have money, but I am nowhere near sane enough to know what to do with it for anything that could be deemed remotely constructive or fulfilling. If I make it to 40, it'll probably be an achievement, for me anyway.

The grass is not always greener as they often say.
        Kept you waiting, huh?

Same. I'll prob pick up all the consoles over time, but the PC is where it's at for me these days. More indie games than I'll ever have time to play and often cheap as chips. I'm also very much looking forward to the kickstarted isomteric rpgs and Dirty Bomb.

I don't think lack of innovation is true? BioShock, BioShock Infinite, Portal, Braid, Fez, Stacking... All are clever games that are really a bigger leap forward than say any Zelda game has been since Wind Waker, maybe even Ocarina of Time, Super Mario Galaxy is probably the most innovative Mario since SMB3 (they kind of undid that when SMG2 was basically an expansion pack though I guess) and next-gen console aren't even fully, or at all, announced. Also XBLA/PSN really embraces retro and tries to improve those experiences, Jet Set Radio got a new lease of life in Widescreen/HD. Banjo Kazooie is better on XBLA than N64 (looks better, saves constantly, leaderboards to compare with friends, achievements...) Daytona USA on XBLA is supposedly the definitive Daytona at home experience? Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike is pretty good on XBLA too even if a lot you question some choices about the port.

I think only playing retro because you love those consoles and like the nostalgia is fair enough but ignoring next gen because you don't want to embrace digital or whatever is just cutting off your nose despite your face really. Infact it really saddens me reading any console-specific thread here as people are so partizan with hate of Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft that they loose all perspective and jump on tiny little things as a "doomed to fail" or "end of gaming" feature. It goes the other way too, I love Nintendo but it annoys me how some are so defensive about Wii U to a point where I actively regret buying it because I think if other Nintendo fans are happy with the games line-up and launch as it stands today then maybe the company and I should have parted ways around Super Mario Galaxy 2.

anyone seen the advert for that yet? saw it on youtube last night with Miyamoto explaining all about it for 4 mins, the first time in ages i didn't skip the ad after 5 second hehe. Kind of looks fun, while watching it play it reminded me how much the gamecube version still looks amazing.

Ugh. No, please, just no, no, no.

This isn't a difference of opinion. It is empirically demonstrable.

Bioshock didn't innovate in any single possible way. It was described as following on from System Shock 2, but in actual fact it regressed from a design point of view. All of the intelligence of SS2 was missing, replaced by shiny graphics and A-to-B gameplay, with a complete fa?ade of choice (ooh, but it's meant to be like that, because: MESSAGE!)

Pikate, if your definition of an innovative game is Bioshock - innovative in that it progressed ideas and did something original - then you've not played the games that came before it.

The entire Bioshock franchise is nauseatingly derivative.

If you've got the cash, try System Shock 2. Think of it as re-education Soviet style.

I can't go big on retro anymore. I've played all the games I want to play, and the returns on re-playing them are starting to diminish. My gaming now is split between multi-player Wii-U with my boys and a bit of J360 action. That's enough.

Not planning to dive straight in with the next gen consoles. I'll never say never, but I'm hoping the Wii-U will be enough ... along with my trusty old Jag and a J360.

All FPS games are derivative, bioshock was different because the enviroments were truly amazing to explore. The story was pretty good too.

I hate the FPS genre & yet Bioshock 1 & 2 made me buy a FPS games & infinite will be added to the list.

I've got my wii u and ps3 and enough games for them which is enough to last for for a few years without buying any new games at all.

Usually I'm first in line when a new console comes out but next gen I have no interest at all. The graphics will look great for sure but I doubt the games will be much different than they are this gen.

For me this gen has probably been the worst, I don't know if that's because im getting older but I just don't seem to enjoy games the way I used to. I've been impressed with the graphics and stories but actually playing the games themselves has not been all that enjoyable, I remember back when a game like goldeneye came out, I played that everyday for months and played multiplayer with my friends for years. Same with mario 64, zelda, ff7, phantasy star online, shenmue, super mario kart etc. this gen most games I turn off after an hour or so as I get bored by them. I've owned and played hundreds of games for the 360/ps3/Wii and I'd say I've seen the credits for about 25% of those games. There's been some amazing games this gen, mario galaxy 1&2, monster hunter tri, zelda skyward sword, demons souls, yakuza 3&4, Bayonetta etc but I'm finding I'm getting more enjoyment from older titles. Last night I played the original arcade shinobi on my wii u and I didn't want to stop playing, its stupidly difficult but not to the point it feels impossible, it has that just one more go factor where you feel like you are improving and if you try it more times you will get passed it eventually. I just don't get that sort of feeling with most modern games which feel more like a slog to get through.

I'm sure next gen will have many excellent games but there's so many great games that I have missed over the last 25 years that I have been gaming and I'm enjoying experiencing these games for the first time, Neo-geo and pc engine are two systems I had never played on before but I'm now starting to enjoy some of the games from these systems (on the wiis virtual console for now, will buy the actual systems and games when I finish uni). I'll still buy the occasional new game for the Wii U so I won't be completely out of the loop but that's not considered as a next gen console, but I won't be buying a ps4 or Xbox 3 in the foreseeable future.

A mix of both old and new is a good path forward with gaming as a hobby. Do what has always been done, cut the wheat from the chaff and play your personal best choices whilst not jumping on board hype trains for titles that come out but retread genre example A B C before it.

We are getting older but this is good. It means our bull**** tolerance is low so you don't waste time on the ****e end of the games market. Good times.

This thread reads like a list of the forums grumpy old men.

Maybe once you hit 40 your just start to hate everything.
