I couldn't give a monkeys if a console requires to be online. My Wii and 360's are always hooked up anyway.

Considering how flakey live gets sometimes, can't wait for a always online model to flake out & stop me playing games YAY. I dread to think how horrible the new dashboard will be on the next console. The current laggy slow & ad bloated 360 incarnation will be nothing once they have you connected online all the time & can stream unwanted ****ty ads at you every second.
Is it me or is the bull**** entry barrier getting higher with each new generation? As each gen comes the things they expect you to put up with gets more & more tedious.
Meh next gen, totally not excited at all. It's going to have to be something earthshattering to tempt me into putting up with all that next gen drm/anti used bull****.
I'll stick to past gen thanks.Last edited by importaku; 06-04-2013, 15:00.

And in 50 years time, when the servers close? It will be quite literally IMPOSSIBLE to play these games.
Right now, I can still play Final Fantasy 6. Rumours are that Watch Dogs will online always, meaning in a decade or so time, no one can play it. Always online consoles is the equivalent of printing books on very thin slivers of ice. Once you shut the air-con down, bye bye books forever.Last edited by Sketcz; 06-04-2013, 15:11.

I doubt you'll be playing videogames in 50 years....or worried about watch dogs...Last edited by dvdx2; 06-04-2013, 16:33.

I love all these reactionary statements like
'I am boycotting this', 'i'm sticking to retro' and 'not buying this'. If you love videogames and have a decent internet connection (which i'm sure the majority of people here have), of course you'll buy it.
What exactly is the difference in this to an ipad or laptop being online all the time?
As some guys have already said, if the internet is temporarily down and you cant play your shiny new toy, go outside an get some exercise, visit your family, or go for a walk, or even play the other 50 gazillion games you already have; most of which you probably havent even played.Last edited by dvdx2; 06-04-2013, 16:34.

Hell, I've boycotted Steam ever since I bought Half-Life 2 on disc way back and found out about its drm. Didn't have an internet connection back then, but I still don't like the idea now so I don't use the service.

The "not able to play games I've paid good money for some time in the future when the servers shut" is the main issue for me here. It's insignificant for most people, but this week, I've been enjoying replaying 1080 on the N64 (see the online challenge forum!!! join in!!!). I'd be moritified if someone prevented that.
Similarly there's no way of arranging online matches in Rallisport Challenge 2 on the Xbox because they shut the xbox1 live servers. I can guarantee you if it suddenly became backwards compatible, people would be on that every weekend still! Even years after its release, lobbies were always rammed at the weekend. This is a travesty - I bought the game for its online action and decent single player. I still play the single player now even though it's last gen. So a feature I've paid good money for has been taken away to make way for "the future" (like having more than 100 people on a friend's list..... seriously who needs 100 people?). What will happen when the Xbox3 Live service needs features that aren't supported by Xbox 360 Live? Will they just shut that down too?
Let's imagine that Xbox3 games all need to be online to function and fast forward to the Xbox4. What happens when the Xbox4 Live service requires features not supported by Xbox3 Live and they just shut down the Xbox3 Live, thus rendering all your games for the last 5 years completely unplayable.
There's no way they can guarantee the servers will stay up indefinitely. They'd had to leave a few up that bounces all requests with a "go ahead" without bothering to check anything.
Problem is, most people don't care about retro.

It's about preservation.
Sometimes I feel like I'm surrounded by insane people.
