Its interesting to hear everyones opinions on this whether you agree with them or not. Obviously we're all gamers but our consumption of games differs drastically so you have to consider that as well... the one thing we all are though is consumers in this market so I would say if you do feel so opposed to such a venture then speak with your wallets.
Most of you directly opposed have already said this but I would stick to your guns. If it means it directs you towards the competition then so be it... in the end if it makes a difference we will all surely benefit.
At least from current rumour MS will be finally unveiling their plans by the end of this month. So at least we wont all be in the dark and can use real information more than just pure speculation.
I am sure Microsoft have looked into this avenue but I'm still personally not expecting it to even reach retail. The back-lash would just be too great a risk given that Sony have come out and openly said they wont be doing it (even though I am sure they've also considered it). Hell even if it did make it to market I am sure if sales numbers were down at launch and correlated directly to this decision they'd just turn it off.
The one thing we can agree on is that the next 6-9 months in the run up to launch for PS4 and Xbox3 are going to be very interesting. The PS3 seems to have performed very well all round even though the Xbox 360 had a time to market advantage. I know coming home to the UK it seems that the PS3 is more popular. Over here in Australia I'd say the 360 is out in front and of course the US is mostly 360 and Japan is wholly PS3.
Whatever decisions these companies make for any successor they'd want to be placing themselves in a position to capture market percentage. It's all well and good having a console which erradicates pre-owned titles and secures revenues with every game but its pointless if the installed user-base is 80% less as a result.
