Love that Twatter photo of Bleszinski. He appears to be hugging an inflatable sex doll in it.

Will have mine tomorrow, but noticed it only sold 99,000 in Japan and is the lowest ever figure for a Mario game in Japan by some margin. And the Wii U console sales have not increased. If this game bombs, then Nintendo need a real re-think.

Anyway. looking forward to playing it when my cheap Wii U arrives (just need to hide it from her indoors!)

Disappointing figures yes, but you know this game will sell decent numbers each week for the next year or so. Maybe. Surprised there really wasn't double the amount sold with the user base in Japan. Thought 90% of Wii U owners would want to pick this up on launch, guess not.

Not really surprising, Japan like their Mario in 2D it would seem (Famitsu gave NSMBU a 40/40 compared to Galaxy's 38/40, over it's lifetime NSMBU sold 4.68 Million copies in Japan, SMG sold just 1.2 million there).

Given that in the same region Pikmin 3 sold 95,000 first week and Wind Waker HD sold 30,000 and neither of those are considered poor sellers then the Japanese first week figures aren't that disappointing. I'd wager SM3DW will sell consistently over the generation and pop up in the charts every time a new big game like MK8, SSB or Zelda comes out.

Meant to say, picked this up in store at GAME at lunchtime and they hadn't even received their pre-order special sleeve and keyrings in, don't know if was the same at all their stores, gutted, as I didn't pre-order but they always give me a pre-order bonus out of kindness normally - I didn't even ask today, he said he would get me the bits then realised they hadn't come in, will try my luck in a few days time with receipt in hand.
How is the sleeve and keyring anyone that ordered online - assuming they arrived.

I pre-ordered it and mine came with nothing.

Another poor sales performance from Ninty, kind of expected to get lost in the PS4 hype madness, but Knack selling more than mario its pretty sad to see and Nintendo must be seriously worried. Quote taken from Eurogamer, PS4 exclusive Knack debuts at 13 ahead of Super Mario 3D World on Wii U at 14. Yes, Knack sold more than Mario.

This was already covered in the thread, all 3D Mario games sell poorly, while the NSMB series is the real top-seller. And probably 3D World will continue to sell while Knack will be forgotten. The low WiiU performance doesn't help either.

I doubt Nintendo are too worried, it's one weekend in one territory, In the US SM3DW has already sold over twice as many copies as Knack (243K vs 102K) which are very respectable numbers considering the next-gen launches, for comparison the new Zelda on 3DS (which released the same day) sold 293K and that's on a console with 6.5x the install base of the Wii U.

I'm pretty sure by Jan 12th Super Mario 3D World will have sold at least 3 times as many copies as Knack in both the US/UK.

But Zelda could realistically sell 293k a in week for the next few weeks too. Mario can't because the lack of console owners.

Which makes Mario's position in the chart not that surprising really.

GAME have an advert in the Metro today saying "buy Mario 3D and get a free keyring and sleeve", so it can't apply to just pre-orders, if you have your receipt and are passing a store worth a cheeky ask.
