I'm tired of all the Mario and platform games in general.

I want a Wii U just for this. Having played bits and seen lots, it's wonderful.

I'm more disappointed than I should be by this game, really. I'd gotten hyped for a new flagship 3D Mario (maybe an ultimate Galaxy game, Mario Universe would seem the ideal title lol), but instead we got a sequel to 3D Land.

It's a really poor use of all the power they finally have at their disposal. I wanted something that would make me say 'wow' like the first time I saw the paint and water physics in Sunshine, and all the awesome stuff that was in the Galaxy games.

I'm sure it'll be a fun game and play really well, but this coupled with 12 months till Mario Kart means I'm probably not going to be buying a Wii U any time in the near future.

I think so, yeah, definitely. 3D Mario is one of my absolute favourite game series around. Another would be GTA (for better or worse!). This to me is sort of the equivalent of Rockstar saying that GTA 5 will actually consist of a sequel to Chinatown Wars. Yeah it'll be fun but, argh, what could have been?

Sounds absolutely blinding. It's really making me want to scoop a Wii U to play on release day (DAY ONE).

Jesus, is someone going to call me out on how many games I've finished now? My opinion has definitely changed on SM3DW. I think my initial view was massively coloured by my disappointment that it wasn't a groundbreaking Galaxy style reinvention of the series.

As I said at the time:

Now that we've seen more of it I'm delighted that it's packed with new ideas and twists on the Mario formula. I'm still holding out for that true 3D Mario (Super Mario Universe would be nice, something new and experimental like the original Galaxy or Sunshine would be even better), but I'm a huge Mario fan and this looks like a superb game

Sadly I don't think I'll be buying a Wii U to play it on release day. Probably in the New Year when I can hopefully snag one for ~?200 with the game.

EDIT: And FWIW I agree with Nu-Eclipse that this should have been a launch title. I'm sure NSMBU is great, but it was a poor demonstration of the Wii U's advantages over the Wii.

The point remains true Dave. Also I do not like 3D Mario games overall but this took me by surprise. I would love to see less platformers and more games like Star Fox and F-Zero.

Super Mario 3D World as a launch-day title for Wii U would've been up there with the first time everybody saw SM64 on the N64 - a total jaw-dropper.

Objection! You'd now be saying how the launch Wii U game was "Just a 3DS game" or something to that effect.
