I will try more later tonight, but I don't have high hopes. It seems to just give up when there's any stress to the harddrive, but I'm no tech wizz. Some googling reveals that people with similar problems have had to return their consoles, but maybe there is a quick fix somewhere. I'm in contact with VGP so we'll see how that goes.

    Greatness still awaits, meh.

Have you not got a spare hard drive lying around you could try? Could be a faulty drive?

I borrowed a 200GB harddrive from my brother, but never got to properly test it as when I tried to install the software from a USB, the USB stick is not recognised, so it stopped there :/ I tried with two different sticks, no luck. I'll try more later tonight, maybe it'll work. Spent 6 hours or so yesterday.

Man that suck. We all feel your pain, there is nothing worse particularly importing as it's such a hassle.

If you can't return it because it's an import you could wait 'til they're out in your region and buy one from your local store, then return the faulty one to the store. I know it's not really the right thing to do but the store will get their money back eventually. Are they 110-240v? It just means it's a $400 paper weight 'til then.

              The PS4 is multivoltage, yes.

The sticks are definitely fat32 and not FatX?

Gutted for you. Have a rest but don't give up just yet!

When I bought my MacBook pro and tha updated firmware wrecked the hard drive support I put it in the box and left it for a few days. By that time I found out how to sort it.

I have a Mac, so when I use "disk utility" to format the sticks the only FAT-option I have is "FAT". However, when I right-click, show information on the sticks, it says FAT32. Right now, I'm thinking it might be something so stupid as I have to rename the sticks themselves to "USB" and retry tonight. I don't know.

Best to format the memory stick on a Windows system to be on the safe side. My old TV and head unit in the car failed to recognise >2GB USB sticks formatted on a Mac.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try that.

I'm running out of options I feel, does anybody have a goat I can sacrifice or something?

Have you tried it on another TV? (And can you confirm your TV is HDCP compliant?

Deffo format FAT32 from a windoze box.

Have only tried it on 1 TV, but haven't had any problem with the TV with any (past 2000) source and can't see how the TV would cause the PS4 to turn itself off...?

In theory, the PS4 (or any other device) may turn itself off if it fail to detect an HDCP-compliant connection. While this is supposed to be a standard, some TVs can have issues with some devices, especially if they have an older HDMI revision.

Absolutely not suggesting that this is the problem, though. Just a small possibility! As Big Bear says, that might just cause a black screen.

I read that now games will not work without an HDCP compatible TV, so some of the fixes described were "Updating TV firmware" and "Using an HDCP compliant TV"

Is the TV only a few years old? Maybe check if there is a firmware update as your last option.
