From the picture, I thought it was going to be one of those silly "will it blend" style videos, but it was actually very good.

You should watch the video of the guy shooting his PS4 with a .50 calibre rifle. Side on it does little, but along the length the shockwave that shatters the case is awesome.

After chatting with mum Sunday morning I'll stream some Resogun for those interested, so you can tell me if the sound works or not.

No CoD shall touch a console of mine ever again. Unless you want to buy me a copy...

For me nope. It is a risk you take with launch machines, some batches are always bad. PS2 broken data memory card issue, PS3 YLOD etc. Having a YLOD on a white Japanese PS3 has prepared me for anything. Although would be gutting having a faulty launch PS4 would just have to deal with it and contact Sony I suppose then tweet Shuhei Yoshida straight after.

That affected every single SCPH-10000 ever made. There is still no known fix for it either.
            Kept you waiting, huh?

For me the issue is that, historically, I've never had a single issue with a launch Sony or Nintendo console: PAL or import.

I just fear the crushing sense of disappointment I'll feel if my PS4 turns up and is borked in some way.

I think where I'm buying it from an online retailer there's also the dreaded returns policy if it does break. If I'd gone bricks & mortar retail it would have been as simple as walking back into town and swapping it. Not so with a parcel.

No Sony hardware issues here either, apart from a DOA 32GB Vita memory card. I've always thought myself quite fortunate, considering I don't buy hardware from domestic shops. I did have a Flash Saturn that would oddly only load first-party games. It was merely a case of going back to CEX for a replacement though.

FYI iPhone headsets work, including the microphone.

PlayStation?4 Sales Surpass 1 Million Units In North America In 24 Hours

According to these figures (Not sure how accurate they are) it took the PS2 10 days to sell the same amount at launch in Japan. The 360 almost sold a third of that figure but it took two weeks to do that in the US.

It's obviously still really annoying for those people with technical issues but with sales figures like that it sort of puts the number of technical issues in perspective so it's in the range of "normal" consumer electronics failures.

I know it doesn't work like that but if that sales rate was maintained over the weekend then they'd be outselling the Wii-U in the US sometime tomorrow morning.

Helpful thread in Kotaku with errors and what can/can't be fixed without Sony.

A number of PlayStation 4 owners appear to have non-functional units that all suffer the same problem, a so-called blue light—or blue pulse—of death. We can't tell how many and assume it's a small but noteworthy minority.

Never had a console be dead on arrival, but this is what I've had fail after I originally received the console brand new:

My Original Playstation 1 - the pads stopped working when you inserted a memory card?! Replaced by Sony.

First XBOX 360 - disc drive died. Like completely dead. No power. Replaced by Currys.

Second XBOX 360 - Red lights of death after 2 years. Repaired by me with X-Clamps. Lasted 2 more years. Then died. Fixing only brought it back temp. Sold for parts.

Game Gear - no picture on the screen. This happened years and years after I got it. Still own it, intend to fix.

Don't think I've had any other problems from a machine I bought new.

I've only had two systems I've bought die, the PS3 and the 360. Both happened long, long after launch and in the 360's case it happened to each of its replacements so in theory I'm more concerned about the XBO failing than the PS4. It's launch so understandably peeps are vocal. The PS3 has less negative amazon reviews yet likely a higher failure rate.

I've gone through a couple of 360s in my time. Or rather, the same 360 many times. Let me explain.

I had an issue where the disc laser became very weak and would stop loading certain games, or certain points in many games. These same games worked fine on my brother's machine, and also borrowed these same games from friends to check it was not the discs themselves. Clearly the laser was dying and I needed a new one. Sent my machine back to Microsoft, but I made sure to leave a tiny, tiny mark on the bottom of the disc tray so I would know if they sent me back a unit with the same disc drive. Machine arrived back - same disc drive, same problem. Sent it back to them - same disc drive, same problem. They were literally sending me the same, unrepaired unit back to me like it was a game of tennis. I even sellotaped a note to the console explaining the problem in detail, including which specific games caused the problem and when. Gave up then and focused on my PS3.

A couple of months later, my brother's 360 RRoD'ed. Go figure. I gave my old machine to my brother because he only used the 360 for FFXI, and that didn't actually use the disc drive bar the initial disc check.

Aside from that, I've had more than a couple of Dreamcast consoles that would randomly reset. I think it affects PAL units in particular, so I avoid them now.

Those sales mean that if there are 30 to 50k defects, it would be an average rate. The more you sell the more will likely go bust, and Sony set a sales record.

A million sales already is incredible.
